We just replaced the temp Gauge on a buddies 76 Jimmy. Now the new gauge appears to respond to power. The needle actually moves now, but it won't move from the cold position. It has an aftermarket gauge in there, looks like a thermocouple off the block, but where is the stock sensor location? I think that the issue is that the sensor just doesn't exist, so it would help to know where the original one is supposed to be.

Anyone got any advice to it's stock location (wire colors too if you got them:) )
Thanks,
Pete

all of our style trucks small blocks for dash gauge use left head near the front between #1 and #3 . should be a single nail head lookin brass pin thread in sensor . put a flat spade conector on the wire and slide it on.

if fuel injection the sensor in the intake will be for computer temp requirements.

The stock sender is located in the driver side cylinder head between the #1 and #3 spark plugs. Keep in mind that you CANNOT use the stock sender for any aftermarket gauge. The senders are matched for each gauge.

Thanks for the replies guys!
I think that is where the aftermarket sensor is. So i guess they removed the stock one, but used that same location.

How many wires run to it on the stock one? Hopefully they are in the engine bay and not cut or removed.

Thanks,
Pete

I got here via [SEARCH] temp sensor wiring.
My '82 k1500 was originally 6.2 diesel but is now a 305 SB . The Radiator & temp gauge is from the diesel. Where would the sensor wire be & is there a simple/cheap way to make it work on the SB?

temp senor on sbc is left head between cyl 1-3 . single nail head shaped or flat spade conetor .

then wire is single green wire to clip on the sensor.

also yes you can use 6.2 rad in gas motor setup. but just a little custom fab on the rad hoses is needed. but its a good setup for max cooling.

Thanks sweetk30. I knew the location of the sensor on the SB from previous posts, but where would the sensor have been on the 6.2? I still have the OG wire harness and I think I found the lil green wire on the driver side near the steering gear box.:dunno:
