Hey guys!

I was crawlin around underneith a mid 80's 4x4 this morning and noticed that the thing has a TH350 with a 205 bolted to it.... Is that even possible, or is it a TH400 that has the modulator on the back instead of the side like my 2wd TH400 had?

If it is a 400 / 205 unit, I think I may be pulling a tranny soon ;)

look at the tranny pan. th350 is square with one corner cut off at an angle, the 400 is odd shaped pan, with a bunch of curves in it. hope that helps

1st Gens (69-72) are commonly found with the TH350/NP205 combo....

:usaflag:

Now that I think of it, I don't recall seeing any sort of kickdown cable, and the wiring on that truck was a mess, so it may very well be a TH400 / 205 combo :)

I just swapped in a 205 behind my TH350. The Np203 and Np205 look similar from the rear if your not familiar with them. But if it does have a TH400, SNAG IT!

Could be a swapped in combo.. Check the pan like evo said.

Does the 205 have a slip yoke?

Its a TH350...

If the modulator is facing the rear, near the tail shaft, its a TH350 for sure..A TH400 has the modulator sticking out sideways on the front passenger side ,near the bell housing....I think GM used the TH350 until around 1981-82 when then 700R4 was introduced..lots of 69-79 trucks had the TH350/NP205 setup..after that the overdrive tranny came along..the 80's 4x4 TH350's are rare, but they did have some..

I have a 205 from a 350, it does have a slip yoke. 1980
