Hey guys,
I am having issues adjusting the detent cable just right. I have tried all adjustment positions on the cable by lifting the clip and closing it at different throttle positions. I know that it should be at or near WOT but I still have issues.

When I get into 3rd, it wants to slip back and fourth into 2nd, until I give it more gas, then it stays in 3rd. It sucks to have to consciously baby the pedal to not have the issue while driving, and the wife thinks the car is gonna brake down when it happens, so I'm losing her confidence in my mechanic skills :(

I have also tried adjusting line pressure at the modulator like Greg has suggested in another (zombie) thread, but that just seems to give me higher rpm shifts.

Could the cable be bad?

What else would you try?

Thanks!
Cam

Is your vacuum line going to direct manifold vacuum? If it is going to ported vacuum this kind of shift shuttle can occur. The 350 kickdown is simple to adjust, should only be pulled tight at wide open throttle. If you suspect the cable is bad or binding, simply disconnect it and try driving that way. One other possibilty could be a loose governor shaft or badly worn governor shaft or bore.

Weirdest thing, but a new cable fixed it. I inspected the old one after removal and everything looked fine too. Dunno... But it works great now.

Thanks guys!

Hey all,
I hope you are well. The truck has been running great (except this issue) ;)

I took the kiddos to the mountains and I really noticed an issue that I have been ignoring on the highway for a while. Here it goes:

When engaging detent at 40-50 mph, the th350 downshifts beautifully. Above 50mph or so, it will not downshift. When climbing the mountain last week, i had to manually engage a lower gear because the detent would not do it. If I floored it, it would just bog, not shift.

I also notice this at 20 or so mph. It seems like it will only down shift from 3-2 but not 2-1.

Could this be a governor issue? Any thoughts?

Thanks a bunch again!

Cameron
