Installed a new one today and it's to long. It's 44". I've searched a few places and they say it's the correct length. Even adjusted all the way back, there is still a good half inch of throttle movement before it starts to pull on the cable. Should I be looking at different brackets or what? I'd snap some pictures but my son is sleeping on me right now so I'm stuck on the couch.

Here's how mine sits. At full throttle it almost doesn't even pull on it and it's set all the way back.

Mine is probably a tad more centered.
I’m think that’s where it’s supposed to be, in the middle, roughly. A buddy told me that’s where you want it.
You said yours in 44’ mine is 40’

Maybe @Bent77 can weigh in...

What's this detent cable you speak?

The last TH350 I touched had a hardened powerglide input and a full manual reverse throttle body

Wanna talk about clutch plates?

Hmm. Mine is the atp-y100 same as yours and I've seen it listed as 44". Gotta be a bracket thing. The one I pulled off is like 36-38".

I’ll snap a few pics tomorrow of my bracket and cable position. Honestly, I just put it where buddy said and left it. He said just set in the middle but I didn’t push down on the gas pedal or anything. Just set it and have left it. I never get close WOT anyway.

WOT is daily driving for me. Plus with 3.73's and 37's, I'm constantly downshifting to get this thing to move so I want to make sure I have this thing working right.

What Rpm are you running at WOT? I haven’t taken mine of the freeway yet. Haven’t really needed to pass anyone, so... I’m usually on the street around 30-50ish mph. People see me and just go around. Hehe.

If you're constantly downshifting to move, tighten the cable... I can't imagine trying to figure out Kick down with 37's, let us know how goes

@TJ1978 Well that's another problem. Transmission shifts at 3500rpm at full throttle. I don't know if that's from the detent cable being to short or the governor needing adjustment.

@fordsucks! Joys of being under geared. I don't know how the previous owner ever got enough wheel speed for mud running.

The vacuum modulator controls part throttle shift speeds, the governor controls the maximum speed it will up-shift at...if yours shifts into second and third at 3500 rpm ,that sounds like the governor was set up for a diesel, which tops out at 3600 rpms--or it may have been calibrated for a vehicle with high rear end gearing...lightening up the governor weights and springs will make it take longer and reach higher rpms before making the up-shift ..

I've run more than a few TH-350's with no detent cable hooked up--some say it does affect line pressure, but the main thing you'll notice is it wont down shift by flooring the gas pedal ..never had a TH-350 fail due to it not being hooked up..if I wanted "passing gear" I just pulled the shifter down into second or first gear manually..

I've got the adjustable governor. Haven't had a chance to drive it since I installed it but like I said, wot is a different problem.

I debated eliminating the detent but I don't want to manually drive an automatic.

I’ve read countless posts saying you don’t need the kickdown, they even sell a block-off for it.

I’ve also read countless posts saying “wha!!! No kickdown, you is nuts, maaan”...

So, I have one but you may not even need it.
