So the old dipstick tube on my '74 K5's TH350 is leaking, where somebody took the brace off and booger welded it back on, so that it will bolt up to the upper side bolt on the bellhousing.
The replacement tube I got at the local parts place has the brace going god knows where else, like it's supposed to bolt to the engine block or something. Even with my removable tranny hump, getting up under there is a bear and I don't see ANYWHERE that the brace can attach.
So, first question, is this normal? First I'd heard of it. Is there someplace I'm supposed to attach this thing to that I can't see? (The block is a newer GM Goodwrench crate motor, so it may differ from the original.)
Second, is the dipstick tube likely to come out if it's not braced? Worries me a bit, like I should at least ziptie it to the cooler lines or something, keep it from coming out over bumps or the like.
Worst case I can JB-weld up the old tube, I s'pose, which might keep it from leaking, but I'm tired of refilling my tranny all the time.

Why do I never think of the dealer?
