Last week my torque converter broke in my crew cab, the hub inside of it broke into 3 pieces. Now, I've never built an automatic trans. before, but everyone said it was very easy to build a th350 so I gave it a whirl. Evidently it had been coming apart for a while 'cause the was lots of very fine metal in the pan so I bought a rebuild kit with new clutches, but no steels. I cleaned everything thoroughly and soaked my clutches and re-assembled the transmission and put a reman torque converter in it. I got through putting it back in this morning and test drove it. Something's not right, when you put it in gear (drive or reverse) it lurches like it should, but when you give it gas you get a "bump" before it moves like it's slipping until the "bump" then it moves. If you let off the brake and let it start moving before you give it gas it doesn't do it. The shifts are mushy compared to before too. Someone before me had made a poorman's shift kit by removing the check balls and removing the spring in the accumulator on the side of the case. Any ideas?
