I have a TH350/np205 combo I recently installed in my truck. Came out of a 73 burb I bought from a friend who's a mechanic, who rebuilt everything 8,000 miles ago. Everything was good before it was parked for 4+ years and my truck never had this noise before the swap.

I installed the motor/trans/t.case first and noticed a chattering sound and slight vibration on partial deceleration. Doesnt make any noise under acceleration or full deceleration. Seems to be the worst when im trying to keep a steady speed on the freeway. The transfercase shifter is not vibrating and I even took it out to double check. There is no metal in the t.case or trans. I even put a different rear diff. in it because it had some pitting on the teeth and I was told that can cause vibration/ noise issues. That didnt help any. There is no front driveline in it so I know its not in the front diff.

I was wondering if this could be the bearing in the t.case adapter. It did sit for a long time and I was thinking the bearing rusted from condensation. I really dont want to drop the t.case without some input on what it might be.

What do you guys think? Any opinions would help me out. I have run out of ideas. Everyone I talk to says there isnt a bearing in there, but I have an adapter im looking at and there IS a roller bearing in it.

I am rebuilding my '72 Blazer - and put all new bearings in my t-case - including the one you are talking about When I felt the bearings - all of them felt okay - EXCEPT that one. It felt awful - didn't roll smoothly at all.

I would definitely recommend replacing that one - have to pull the t-case & cross member to get to it, but worth it.
