th350 or th400 behind a 4.3?

2 friends of mine run a 400 behind a 4.3, but the also have light buggies with atlas tcases. Whenever you add a 400 to your setup, you will lose about 75 horses.

I was told my a friend who races cars ( mostly Novas ) that a TH350 uses 15 HP and a TH400 uses 45 HP. The real question is how much horse power can you afford to lose?
If I was running a 4.3 I would use a TH350 in the lightest rig I could build or strip.

it's a 1993 s-10 with 5" flared fiberglass fenders and a 4" lift. the 700r4 in it is slipping and they only want $1000 for the truck. i have both a th400 and a th350 laying here.

I would do the TH 350. It would be pretty much a direct bolt in. The TH 400 has diferent output shaft splines. you will need a 27 spline output shaft, move the crossmember, and shorten the drive shaft. TH 400 is Not really woth the trouble on a 6 banger.
