So, a week after I bought it the th350 went out in my 79 k5. To replace, I want to swap in a '465. I picked one up from a local with all the neccesary junk that goes with it, pedals, linkages, flywheel, etc. It originally bolted to a 205. Now my only problem is what t-case do I use? My k5 came with a 203, so if possible I'd like to reuse that. Will a specific tcase let me reuse the stock shafts? I'd like to for now because the truck isn't lifted yet. Will be in awhile but for now it's going to be a "replace what needs to drive" type things. TIA!

assuming the 465 has a 10 spline output:
you will need a RARE 465-203 adaptor (factory '74 or one of the fabricated replacements ORD, NWF, etc) and a 10 spline FEMALE input gear for your 203 (also hard to come by, NWF used to have them, but not listed anymore) This will allow you to tear down your current case, change the input gear, and bolt it to the back of your 465, keeping same driveshafts. Adaptor $150-300, input gear $?

assuming you have a 32 spline output:
you will need a 465-208 output housing (factory 85? and later), a 32 spline input gear for the 203 (ORD, NWF, used case from a th400) and you will need to tear down your current case, change the input gear, re-drill the face to match adaptor. Will NOT allow you to keep current driveshafts. Adaptor $50-150, Input $135 (new), Driveshafts $200-400

Using a np205:
need adaptor (commonly available: junkyard/classifieds $20-50) need 205 case (commonly available: junkyard/classifieds $50-200), need to modify driveshafts $200-400

if it was me, i would look for a deal on a 205. you can probably get a case and adaptor for under 100 easy, then find a decent driveline shop and pay about 200-ish to have your rear shaft lenghened and your front shaft shortened

That seems to break it down very well for me, thanks!

If I go the route of a 205, is there a rig at the JY that I could snag shafts from that are the correct length? Like some truck, whether it's long/shortbed etc?

The front driveshaft from a 465/205 truck will fit no problem, be it 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, and I think 1 ton

Rear driveshaft you may need to get modified...
