So Ive been having some transmission problems. The first is when trying to get it to shift into reverse you have to sort of work the shifter a little back and forth before it catches and shifts. The next is when trying to move I push the gas and it will rev like crazy and not want to move and I can push the pedal a couple times and then it will finally start to move some. (most of the time just does this in reverse but sometimes in ohter gears) When it does this in reverse sometimes if I shift into a forward gear and drive 20 or 30 feet then shift back to reverse it will go on along much better. What could be the causes of this? Is the tranny just done for? I just bought the Blazer last year so I dont know a lot about the tranny. If its time for a rebuild how much do they usually cost at a shop or how hard would it be to do myself? If rebuilding what parts should I put into it? Upgrades? Never done any tranny work before but Im always up for a challenge!

I would start by checking your shift linkage from the column all the way down, sounds like you may have something loose, worn out, or not adjusted properly.

Check your motor and transmission mounts as well. The drivetrain loading up and torquing over could possibly be causing the eratic gear engagement.

if you haven't done it since owning the blazer, drop the pan and replace the filter and fluid in the trans. Its possible you a have a piecs of trash caught up in the valve body.

if you pull the trans and carry it to a shop for rebuild it should be around $400 for a stock rebuild

sounds like low fluid to me. check it, it should be red (not brown or black) and it sould be at least up to the checked part of the dipstick. It must be running and in park to check.

"I push the gas and it will rev like crazy and not want to move and I can push the pedal a couple times and then it will finally start to move some. (most of the time just does this in reverse but sometimes in ohter gears)"
This is a sign of ether low or bad fluid, a plugged trans filter, or a slipping clutch

$400 sound about right (may be more) for a rebuild if you take it out and bring it in. doing it your self is not always a good idea. Between the tranny tools and parts it can cost more than $400 and if you have a good shop do it you will know it was done right by someone has done a few of these before.

The reverse on the th350 is usually the first to go and these are symptoms of it going out but it could also be low fluid, it's the first and cheapest thing to check.
If your fluid is OK and the right color you might need a rebuild soon, if it is brown I would change filter and fluid and it should get better.
As for rebuilding it, I did mine the first time and it took me 2 days, not really hard if you had the tools, I made mine.
I believe the place here in Sac charges $700 if you bring the Tranny to them.

Thanks for the help, Im at school right now but whenever I get a chance to get home for a day or two Ill check the fluid and see how it looks.
