I’m going to start this thread for all my questions/members answers to document replacement my th350 transmission. I have a few other threads but Id like to keep this part to the replacement process. Ill post pictures along the way.

Today I removed the rear drive shaft. What should be done at this stage? Have it looked at by a shop to make sure its balanced properly?

Also what U joints go in these? The rear just fell apart by my own fault. But I have this stuff down and I want to replace what I need to now. If it looks decent, Id rather just replace it.

What type of bolt is this is this specific one needed? Located on the yoke into rear diff.
Thanks

I found here this comment: “The 14-bolt (FF) uses a 1350 series u-joint”.

So I need to order 2 of these, correct?

Yeah. Most 14 bolts will still use the stock 1350 series joints. Spicer 5-1350X. To be certain: Measure the caps - 1.188" cap diameter and the span 3.625"cap to cap. There are a lot of weird cross-over joints available, so best to measure what you have right now, never know what you will find under a 45 year old truck.

Also looks like you will want a u-joint strap and bolt kit. Spicer 3-70-28X

I'd take the driveshaft to a driveshaft shop and let them go through it and check it out and do the work. Usually they can rebuild a driveshaft and balance it for like $200.

Just dropped it off at AZ driveshaft. They’re going to look it over and call me back..

Picked up the rear drive shaft. Balanced, weld cleaned up (re-welded) U joints installed and painted. $243
AZ Driveshaft turnaround was quick, 1day.
