Guys for a while now I've been noticing a noise from under my truck that is not normal, been getting worse for a while now and I'm not sure where it's coming from. First off, if I do anything but lightly step on the gas, I get clunking/vibration almost like axle hop but it's not full on axlehop, next mostly when I'm going uphill I will get this combo of almost a groan and vibrations from the tranny or t case. Weird thing is this tranny was rebuilt and has only 2000 miles on it. Also u joints are new. Anybody got any ideas of what this might be?

Is it the same one that you got rebuilt for $300. Might be the problem!

Yes it is, but it was done by a reputable shop that was recommended to me by a great mechanic. And hell if it is the tranny I'm gonna take it back there and hopefully they'll do something about it because it's only got 2000 miles on it.

Well you will have eliminate other possible causes and go from there. Motor mounts trans mount?

Does the problem I described sound like it could be at all transfer case related? I mean I know it could be the tranny but I just want to think that it isn't because it was just rebuilt but then again... Who knows how good a job that feller actually did.

Another thing is that this problem doesn't happen when the truck is cold, only after its warmed up.

There are so many variables it will be difficult to call this one, could even be engine related. For instance, it is not uncommon when pulling a trans out of one of these trucks for the distributor to hit the firewall and dislodge the cap slightly or pop a plug wire loose. On the trans First check fluid level, low fluid can do this, second, check trans pressure with a pressure gauge and see if it falls within spec. Third, if the modulator is adjustable crank the screw in clockwise three turns, fourth check to be sure the vacuum source is direct manifold vacuum , not teed off anything else and the line is free and unrestricted or kinked. If all that checks out, take it back to your builder and have him render his opinion.

I talked to the builder today, he said he thinks it's could be the transfer case, does this sound t case related at all? If it helps, when the groan/grinding sound happens ( when going uphill) you can feel it in the t case shifters. I know they vibrate just from normal driving but you can feel the difference when it grinds. Any ideas?
