I'm wanting to exchange out my tranny from the th350 to a 700r4 on my 80 k5. Anyone know what needs to be done? I had seen an adapter from advance adapters that looked like the stock adapter but can't find it anymore.

o ok, 205s never came behind 700s so you will need to find an aftermarket adapter to work with it.

The best way to put a 205 behind a 700R4 is to use the existing TH350/205 adapter and also the teckpak fitzall spacer (7Q-35A). The problem with using the AA short shaft is that the front driveshaft interferes with the trans pan. Using the stock TH350 adapter and the spacer moves the 205 back far enough that it's no longer a problem.

im not 100% sure but you also might have different spline count so that might be another issue but i know it has been done. sorry i cant tell u much more. when it comes to 205s im a little stupid.

So I still need to get AA's short shaft kit along with the spacer?

No, instead of using the AA short shaft you just use your existing TH350/205 adapter and the teckpak fitzall spacer. Don't forget that you'll still be using your drive sleeve also.

I believe that you will also need to cut down the length of the output shaft on the 700R4 by about 1/8-1/4". It's just a bit too long.

My friend was wondering if we had to do the same modifications if we used a 4L60 instead of the 700R4?

The 4L60 is just a renamed 700R4 then starting in late 1992 it changed to 4L60E and is fully electric. So yes, the same install for the 4L60
