hi uk owner here.
my transmission gave up the ghost about 3 years ago and have only started doin repairs to get her back on the road again this year.
the problem is i cant remember how it drove. i rebuilt the box but it seems heavyer selecting drive than reverse. and once selected drive the truck drives off at a slow speed. is this right? or is there something i can adjust?

thanks wheelbarrow

when you say it "seems heavier" selecting drive, do you mean it is harder to shift it into that position? Could be the shifter linkage.

Automatic transmissions, depending on idle speed, will normally move the vehicle when the brakes are not applied, because they use a torque converter rather than a clutch. However at idle, there is not enough power for them to overcome the brakes when applied, allowing the vehicle to stay stopped.

as you move shifter from park to reverse to neutral its smooth but as you move it to drive it you can see the box twist alot more than selecting reverse. wat you said about idle speed would explain things but it ticks over nice and slowly. this is the first auto iv ever touched let alone rebuit. i bought a rebuilt book and copied from there but it doesn't list this problem in there. thanks for your help
