So before I started tearing my Blazer down to do a body swap it was giving me problems when shifting and didn't really want to work in reverse, well I have since checked the fluid and it has a burnt smell to it, which I know isn't good. Well I haven't pulled the pan yet or tore into it anything but what would be yall's opinions on this, is it done for? This gets me to the rest of my question, if it is should I rebuild it or swap it out for a SM465-NP205 with hydro clutch? If I were to rebuild it is it doable at home or should I take it somewhere, also what parts would yall recommend to go back into it? Not trying to spend a whole lot here (college student) but want to do it right and have something that will last a while. I have found a SM465-NP205 with hydro setup and pedal assembly, the guy is also throwing in a rebuild kit for the 465 with all new syncros for like $450 I think, he said it was working good when pulled (take that with a grain of salt though) the only thing it doesn't include is a flywheel and clutch. What direction would yall go? Thanks.

been wondering the same thing, that sounds like a pretty good deal with the 465/205 and i would do it that way and hope the 465 is ok, you can buy a reman 350 w/tq conv off ebay for 675 free shipping, depending on what brand you buy a rebuild kit will run from 100-300, b&m makes a good kit for about 200 i think. as far as the rebuild goes it depends on if you think you can do it, there is a book that everyone recommends but i cant remember what the name is

So no one else has had this problem or tried to decide which way to go?

Been there done that.

I've swapped two Th350's out of my trucks for 465's. I just prefer the stick.

Sounds like yours is on it's way out. The Th350 is one of the easiest autos to rebuild. Find a book and do it yourself. I did my first one when I was 15. The only reason I swapped the stick into that truck was it was going to be my pulling rig. I sold the trans to a friend of mine and it still going strong today.

For the rebuild kits, I've done a couple with kits from Napa. Also done a few with TCI parts. But those were rebuilds for drag cars. If you do rebuild it, be sure to get a new (or remanufactured) torque converter and flush the cooler and lines out.

At that price I would go with the SM465. What transfer case do you have currently? Is it a long 32 spline output SM465 or a short 10 spline output? I blew up the TH700R4 in my 1988 Suburban and swapped an SM465/NP208 in it's place. Best mod I ever did to it. It runs better now, and gets better fuel mileage.
