<font color=red>Well, for all Th350 owners, if you experiance this problem, shift for the tranny for a couple of days and see what happens. That's what I did and something must have been clogging it up or it was gummed up somewhere, but it shifts fine now. I'm still planning on servicing the tranny cause whatever was clogging it is now in the filter prolly.

I went offroading and broked it &lt;img src="http://coloradok5.com/forums/images/icons/frown.gif"&gt;.

It skips 2nd gear. If I manually shift for it, it's fine. No slipping, nothing. Perfect! If I put it in D, then it will skip 2nd and go to 3rd. I plan on servicing the tranny, but is there anything else that could cause it? I'm thinking maybe a little ball or something got cruded up or possibly the detent cable? I dunno! The fluid looks good and is full. Needs to be changed, but it looks like it should.
I don't know much about trannies other than, check the fluid, top it off, change it, and if that don't work, take it to a shop &lt;img src="http://coloradok5.com/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif"&gt;

Re: TH350 troubles

HAD THE SAME PROB ONE TIME.....vacuum line to the trans was knocked off...but it back on and shifted the night away!

Most overheard question in the Carolinas...................."Randy who"????

Re: TH350 troubles

Well just because I like to read too many cars books I happen to have the GM service manual for the TH350C. It has a diagnosis chart for it and another section that is an outline that explains how to fix it.

A skipped shift can be...

"No 1-2 shift-makes 1-3 shift and 3-1 shift, but has all shifts manually"

The problem is listed as...

"1. Intermediate roller clutch"

The solution is...

"1. Intermediate roller clutch not locking"

Don't know how that last one is a solution but thats what the book says. It'll probably entail a rebuild if you don't wanna do the shift manually.

The time to drop it will be about 2 weekends if you were me. I just finished putting mine back in the '81 yesterday. It took me about a day of actual working and one of goofing off to get it out. It took me two days of hard work to get it back in and freshen up all the things that need attention after 15 months stationary. I didn't have a transmission jack and had zero help so that slowed things up. The jack would be worth it because bench pressing an NP208 into position was rough and a 203 would be even worse.

I got mine rebuilt for $315 w/ new convertor. I'm way the heck up here in Sioux City, IA so I probably dont think you'd wanna do that but I had to brag because I got a great deal and it shifts like a million bucks.

lara when you service the tranny also do the tranny cooler there is a kit you can get (your husband should be able to get it from napa) what you do is disconect both cooler lines from the tranny and hook up the kit to one line and it blows a cleaning solution then air through your cooler to get everything out of it just to make sure you get as much of the old oil out as you can
