Pulled Engine, found the bellhousing cracked. Replace the case, buy a rebuilt transmission? Local transmission shop (Steve's Offroad uses him exclusively) will charge $65 to look at it, approx $250 to replace the case. Will not give a rebuild quote till they look at it.

Suggested that I leave the 203 transfer case attached and the same $65 will get it checked out too?

OK guys, good deal or not? Where to look and how much to pay for a good rebuilt (daily driver) tranny and 203?

Fred

i had my trans rebuilt and hopped up a little bit, with Some HD internal parts that i cant remember the name of. for around 400 bucks. i think it was a little less then 400, was a couple years ago....

$250 for a case?!?! HD th400 cases sell for 75-125 here........and the guy I take mine to charges $325 to rebuild em, using your case. When I took him my tranny last time.....the only reusable parts were the case & the output shaft, still $325.

Just find a blown tranny at a junkyard or similar place and have them swap the guts over. They must be selling gold cases.

clarification

The $250 includes te original $65, the case, and installing the guts into the new case.

Fred

does that 250 include new parts, or is it just tossing all the old stuff over? It wont turn into one of those, yeh itll be $450.......yeh we hadta swap out all the clutches, steels, bands......yadda yadda.....

The $250 is just evaluating a nd swapping

A rebuild will be additional. But here again, it's not a few hund on top of the $250. It will replace the $250 and the $65.

After looking at waranteed replacements on line, it looks to be a better deal than I thought at first.

Thanks guys, pics to follow after the engine build starts (tomorrow?)

Fred

post some pics of the damage. then we can tell you if it can be repaired by a pro. lots of cases are fixed for trail and street use.

you should look in to just replacing the bellhousing. Summit sells a replacment bell housing for the 350 tranny which is stronger than stock

yea the 350's are a one piece case but you cut off the old bell and put on the new one with bolts. Do a search i rember some body did it before on a 350
