So if i can't get my 700r4 fixed in time for my big bear trip, im thinking about putting my th350 in. I was just wondering wat rpms do you guys see on the highway, and gas milage. Also, i heard that i should use a steel vacuum line instead of rubber. any reason for this.

a few..

They use steel line for the modulator for a few reasons..one is rubber can collapse under vacuum ,or get pinched, and block the vacuum from getting to the modulator..also if the modulator diaphram leaked it would coat the inside of the hose with ATF and make it swell or mushy..rubber hose might burn on hot exhaust pipes too..
