Calling the Th400/NP205 experts. I’m fairly confident that this will work, but I wanted to get a second opinion on it before I go full send. For the question…will these work together?

Th400 that originally had an NP203 with the short 32 spline output shaft, and a ‘91 NP205 with the long 32 spline input shaft.

What adapter?

I have always understood the tailshaft for a 203 application to be unique and not fit anything else.

Since the 400 tailshaft only sticks out an inch, the adapter you use would need to be slightly shorter than the amount the 205 input sticks out.

Won’t work, a 400 that had a 203 has an output shaft unique to that application. To use the long 32 spline input you need a 400 tail shaft with 2.5” stickout length…the 400/203 only sticks out a little over an inch.

Here’s a handy guide from ORD:

Yup, y’all are correct, won’t work. Now for plan b…

I’m picking up a blazer today with no engine/trans/tcase, so I’m looking at all the spare parts in my garage and thinking what can I slap together to make this thing a runner:dunno:

I may end up going the 5.3/4l60e route. Those are easy enough to find.

You can use the 203 output th400 with the 1” thick th400 atlas adapter and the short input on a round 205.
That would have been handy to know about two years ago :D I assume you can use it with a 208/241 as well?
