Th400/208

How much messing around would I have to do to convert a Th400 with a 208 and change it to a 205?

Pretty easy... so long as you use a 85-90 style NP205 & adapter from a TH400 its a direct bolt up.

I needed to modify my crossmember also but otherwise bolt on 205 from a 87 K-30.

The output shaft on the 400/208 combo is shorter than a 400/205 output shaft. You would need to change shafts, which entails dissasembling the entire tranny to do.

I´m not sure but I think there is two different lengths on the output shaft of the 400.
I did not have to change it .

That is true for 80-84 TH400/205. For 85-90, TH400s use the same (shorter) output shaft for either t-case.
