If you have a 400 with a short tailshaft it's pretty easy. The tough part is the t-case. Assuming you have a short tail trans, check to see how far the shaft sticks out of the case. If it's about 4.5" then you're real good.
The rest of the story...
I'm assuming you want to use a 205 since you have one now. You'll need the correct adapter to bolt the trans to t-case. Next you'll need a short 32 pline input shaft for the 205. It's easiest if you can find an original 32 spline 205 t-case otherwise you'll need to bore the case to accept a larger bearing (that goes on the input shaft).
It can get confusing quick. If you're not already familiar with the different variations of the GM 205 you might want to spend a little time on ORD's site reading before you go any further.

I believe you have to first find out what input your transfer case has, then get the matching output shaft for your 400, then the adapter to put between them.
This would require complete disassembly of the trans.
