I am installing the fill tube on my TH400. It seems to fit loose in the tranny. I am able to get it to sit all the way in, but it seems like there should be an o-ring on it. I do not remember one there when it came out last year.

Is there a o-ring that is supposed to go there are does it just slip in?

Yes, something should be there. The are 2 possible seals you can use, one is an o-ring and the other is like a rubber sleeve. I always used the 2nd on my trans and it worked great.

I thought something should be there. Is the rubber sleeve something I can pick up at napa or is it I need to make myself?

It's a NAPA part, it's got a lip midway down and a shoulder to stop it once it's in deep enough.

You can kinda see one on this tube assembly (random google pic).

They all have some kind of a seal:
If your tube has a grove about an inch from the bottom, then it's a O-ring seal type.
If it's stepped down to a smaller size at the last inch then it's the sleeve style seal.

Good point iceman, I forgot about the tube differences. Fwiw I used a later model th400 dipstick & tube, it has a flip lever on top (instead of a pull ring) that locks the stick in place and helps prevent it from belching fluid.

Yeah I got one of these sittng here waiting to go on my project.

if oring tiny bit of lube on oring. then when in tranny case all dry outside seal all around with black rtv let cure 24 hrs best results.

lots of oring ones leak.

the outer rubber sleave is the best design.
