So my CUCV starting barfing fluid out the filler tube. Nothing has changed in ages, so something happened just from driving/sitting. I'm hoping it's not catastrophic failure inside causing overheating... is there a vent on the TH400 someplace that might just be plugged? Thanks for any help.

Yeah there should be on the very top of the tranny, close to the body. Here mud daubers are real bad about getting in them. I'd be careful on how you go about cleaning it out though. You may not want all that crap in the tranny. I'm sure someone will chime in

The vent did appear to be plugged. When I touched it, it just cracked off flush with the trans. Can anyone explain how that little tube is attached? Is it pressed in, or screwed in, or what? Are there ways to modify it so a longer breather tube can be attached?

That tube has a lip on the other end, it simply slides into the tranny from the front, then when you bolt the pump on it can't come out either direction. You'd have to remove the pump to properly remove it. Older trannies had metal tubes there.

I did put an extension hose on mine and extend it up to the top of the firewall.

You took it apart, or somehow connected to that flimsy little plastic thing?

Any suggestions what I should do? I could just leave it, but it is kind of exposed even though it's a tiny hole.

Is it broke off, is it plugged? It's only a vent for fluid to come out if the trans gets too hot or too full. As long as it isn't plugged or will not get contamination in it, just leave it go. If it's plugged, it needs to be unplugged somehow.

I just slipped a rubber hose over it and hose clamped it to the plastic thing. There is no pressure on it, so it doesn't need to be strong. Just be careful if you extend it, if fluid comes out of it, you don't want it spraying all over your engine, exhaust, or other hot parts.

It was completely plugged with dried mud or something. When I messed with it, it cracked off flush. I think it's clear now, though it's hard to tell, but without the tube I think it would be pretty easy for contamination to get in.

Maybe you can use a shop vac to suck out any mud left in the tube, put a peice of hose on the tube and duct tape it to the shop vac hose....I used the same trick to retrive a small socket I dropped into an engine while the intake was off before it fell all the way into the oil pan!..

All I have left at this point is a hole in the side of the trans. The tube is cracked away flush.
