Going to use a th400 that originally came from a diesel k5 in the new rig. Thinking of using a tci full manual reverse valve body with engine braking and a ~2500 converter based on recommendations when running a 6.0. Do I need to change anything else for this application? It came from a perfectly good running vehicle that was converted to standard transmission. This stuff is voodoo to me.

shouldn't need the gov with a full manual v/b

the t/c stall seems high for a rock rig though.

Yea, you delete the governor and the governor feed pipes, with a MVB.
If it doesn't shift itself, it doesn't need to know to shift itself.

I've heard that full MVB's get annoying.
Even on the trail.

I just modded mine into a D-1-2.
Fairly simple process.

The PO of this TH400 put in a shift plate, that firms up the shifts.
I just modded the nec. parts of the trans.,
now it should hold 1 and 2, and be auto in "D".

Normal shift pattern tho.
Reverse Pattern is prolly where it's at for you.

I wanted mine normal, so the wife could just leave it in "D",
While still having access to panic reverse.

Thats it. 2500 seems high but I drive a 6.0 daily & think it would like that much converter.

I run the Art Carr RMVB with compression braking. TCI didn't make one (with compression braking) when I bought or I would have gone that way since TCI is local to me.

I love the RMVB. shifting doesn't get old. I also love having reverse & first next to each other.

I have the TCI rev manual with engine braking in mine with art carr shifter and I love it. I had just put it in before blazer bash.

I also never get tired of shifting. The engine braking is pretty nice on downhills also.

what about torque converters, brands to look at or any other features?

I've run TCI and Coan other than GM stuff

The TCI I've had for a long time, the Coan is what's in the Vette now....so far so good with it.

I use TCI or Precision Industries. Both are local to me. Both have outsatnding records. I lean more to Precision these days.

What about different diameters and such? I see tci has a half dozen different tc models.

Smaller diameter is a higher stall.

So just look at the stall speed, and match to what you want.

Best to call those companys tell em what you have and talk to them

A-1 is another good company

I have been rocking a totally stock converter, but its just a stock motor.

I have a RMVB with compression braking and a Winters performance sidewinder gate shifter. I love it so far. I think my torque convertor is either 2000 or 2500, can't remember. This is with a totally stock tbi 350, no complaints thus far

I used to have an art Carr then after nearily coming over backwards I switched to a modded pro stick so I could hit r fast. Now I am doing the reverse valve body with the art carr style again. Ordered a tc from local tranny shop a friend works at.

I see you ordered, but I wanted to add that you can buy larger diameter convertors that have higher stall speeds also. On an offroad rig I try to stay with a 13" converter if I can. The larger the converter the more fluid in it, & in my mind at least they don't flash the tempature as fast.

He said that was the most stall they could do in a large converter

Sounds like you did good, hopefully it does just like you want it to. Converters can sometimes be ticky to get just right.

Seems like a lot of voodoo when it comes to converters. Hopefully working with a somewhat local vendor and friends workplace pays off. Definately a lot cheaper.
