Hey folks,

Just ordered a weight and spring kit for my transmission. Currently shifts at 3000 RPM. Want to get it up to 5000-5500.

Anybody have experience doing this? Is it just hunt and peck or is there some science to it?

I just used finish nails as pivot pins and ground the weights with a grinder a little at time until it shifted where I wanted it too. Be sure to try it in both high and low for the t-case. I thought I had it all set with it in high range, then when I put it in low it hit the rev limiter before it shifted, so I had to start over and take a little less off. Everything happens quicker in low range and it didn't shift quick enough then.

Do you have the kickdown switch hooked up?

If it shifts at 3000 rpm it is either a diesel governor or you don't have a functioning kickdown system. If the kickdown system is disabled I suggest getting it back in operation first so you can get the rpm up where it belongs before the governor mods.

With the key on and someone in the vehicle, depress the throttle and check voltage at the case connector on the drivers side of the trans.

I checked it arlier and it had 12 volts. The switch at the pedal is brand new.

If I remember correctly it was still shifting at 3000 even after kick down.
