Detroit... well almost
Hi all. I just put a B&M trans pan on my Suburban's TH400. All back together, pan filled, and ready to cycle through the gears... but the trans won't shift. I took off the linkage at the transmission shift fork and tried manually... won't shift (linkage works and is clear of all obstacles).

Any ideas on what I should do next??

Sounds to me like you have to take the pan back off and make sure something didn't jam the internal shift linkage up. The shift linkage is right near the filter pickup tube something must of gotten in the wrong spot and jammed up the linkage when you put the pan on and tightened it up? Get it cycling with the pan off (make sure the vehicle can't roll) and then you can see where to steer clear of when you put it back on.

since this started after the new pan was put on it probably has somthing to do with that. maybe the parts internally are bound up against the pan rail?

You guys are right. Pan needs VERY minor clearance. It interferes with the "sector gearlike thingy" on the internal linkage.

I hate parts that just barely don't fit... seems like there's alot of that going around...

THANKS!

Update: I'm measuring ~185degrees temp at the remote filter (plumbed before an auxiliary tube and fin type cooler... then summit aluminum radiator cooler... elec fan on temp switch) while running down the freeway at 3000 rpm's. Previously recorded ~195degrees.
