i'm trying to get my plans made for my mud race truck for next year. were gonna tear down the truck in preparation for the 496 BBC to go in and might as well get rid of the heavy np203 also. (besides, i hate those things). i searched around and am more confused, been out of the building loop for a bit. anyway...

i currently have a th400 with a np203 in the truck. the th400 is staying, it has a full reverse valve body and is solid.

i'd like to go to a np205 or maybe a np208 t-case.

for parts i have a np205 round pattern from a th400 , a 2wd th400 with a bolt on yoke and tailshaft housing, a th400 to 205 round adapter .

do i have the parts to convert over to a 205? i thought i had this all wrote out somewhere and i did, but can't find it now.

The tail shaft for a 203 application doesn't fit anything else (its the shortest). The tail shaft for the bolt on yoke is for a figure 8 set up (longest for 4wd application). For the round pattern 205 I'm 99% sure you need on like used in a 208 application (CUCV core?)

:doah: maybe i do have the figure 8 adapter and figure 8 205 laying around.

i gotta check tonight.

let me know if you wana get rid of the 203 . i got 205 parts to deal with .

that t400/203 is the desirable combo for the T400 doubler....perhaps trade that off for the combo you want....I would go for the 400/205 for shear brute strength.

I have the figure 8 adapter and 205 cases.

My th400 is built, i won't be getting rid of it, just want rid of the 203.

The bolt on yoke trans tailshaft should stick out of the case (with the rear cone removed) approx 4" or so. If so, this is the shaft you need to put in the other trans.
