this is a pic of the old 700r4 to th350 swap kits . the big aluminum spacer took up the difference .

i am in need of a spacer for a th400 with male on 1 side and the female on the other side . just a straight up spacer . this would be 1" - 1 1/8" thick range .

i have a combo i need to bolt up but cant just use a re-drilled round pattern adapter on it . so the spacer would be fast / easy / work good. and i dont want to tear apart the good working trans just to change a tail shaft and i dont have the tail shaft i would need anyway .

I don't know from the pic in the build thread, but is there a possibility of cutting enough off of the trans output shaft? I doubt that there is enough, but had to ask.
I cut the beveled part off of my 700R4 which has a 4L60E output shaft. This got me better oiling, but I needed to take 1/2" off. I stuffed rags in the back if the trans, and taped it up as best I could. Took the cutt-off wheel to it.
This was all to use the spacer that you posted.

i need 1" - 1 1/8" range and the shaft would not have the spline needed then . if thats all it was i would have done it already . thanks tho .

I figured that, but had to flap my gums!
I wasn't sure with how the pics were in the thread. I didn't know if I misunderstood

I was in the same scenario, had to tear it down for a short output.

not going to happen . tear down and swap and shaft cost as much if not more than make a simple spacer . and if i ever wana swap back to the way it was just unbolt the spacer .

sent a text to a old friend who made me a spacer/adaptor years ago . he said call him in the morning and he can figure out another 1 for me .

I don't think I have ever seen one for the 400, maybe Novak or Advance Adapters might have something as part of a kit they could sell you independently?

Someone should make those adapters..especially when they have them for a Th350 and 700R4..

I could probably use one myself,I have a 1974 TH400 that came out of a Monte-Carlo with a 454 factory, has the short tail--but I do not think if I took off the tail housing, there would be enough "depth" in the splined input on a NP-208 I have, to allow it to bolt up...be nice to be able to use it "as-is" in a 4x4 ..

I bet you could get away with an adapter/spacer though, there would likely be enough travel in the drive shafts slip yokes to compensate for another inch or so.

I still do not know why GM decided to make a 4x4 transmission have a shorter output shaft, than a 2wd short tail TH400...seems counter-productive to have SO many different variations, when they could have designed it so one "fits all" instead..:screwy:..

I wonder if you could chop off the tail housing part off a junk transmission case to make an spacer out of it ?..someone with a water jet or CNC machine should be able to make one but it probably wont be cheap for a "one off" part..
