I have seen conflicting info on this-
Have any of you personally used or seen an oring between the TH400 and the adapter? If so, where did you get it from?

Additionally, is there a spline seal for the rear output (32 pointed star shaped)

Thanks for the help-

my 400 205 combo has a o ring seal. it is the later model 86 short adapter. try the dealer.

I've had several 400/205 combos (both tall and short designs) and none have had an o-ring. All of my combos had a paper gasket. :dunno:

paper on the transfer-case, o ring seal on the trans to adapter, at least on the 86 up it does.

Interesting, mine was a gasket on the trans side. (yes, '85+ short style)

is the 86 up the round pattern to 205 adapter style? Not that it would matter, the interace in question is the adapter to TH400 side. There's a tapered boss on the adapter that fits into the trans, and a groove where the oring (could) sit.

My adapter is to the 8 bolt racetrack mounting style tcase.

This is a TH400 - NP203 adapter. It has an o-ring type seal along the "lip" around the hole in the center

thanks--- any idea where I could buy these two seals?

and one more question--

When I pulled the long slip shaft out of the rear housing, there were two clips, one big diameter the held the bearing in place and one small that fit the OD of the output shaft.

With the fixed shaft in the housing the bearing clip fits the same, but the shaft clip is too big for the fixed shaft. Does the fixed shaft not use the small clip? I installed the clip at the arrow in the pic, but it's real loose.

Thanks for all the replies- I just ordered what I think (hope) are the right parts from Chevy dealer-

O-ring TH400 to NP205 adapter - P/N 1358899
32 tooth rubber washer for output yoke - P/N 14022211

By the way, the O-ring only comes in packs of 5, so I'll have 4 leftover if anyone else wants one-- PM me
