Ok I have a th400 out of a 80's tow truck. I was told it had a np208 attached to it. From what I was looking at on offroad design, it said that the late model th400 had a longer output shaft than the earlier one (about an 1" or 1.5"). It said if it was maited to the 208 then it would have the longer output shaft.
Ok the question is will any 205 bolt up to it that has a 32 spline count, or will I have to find a certain one for the longer output shaft. If what year and vechicles could I get them out of?
Or is there an adapter I can order?

How far does the tailshaft stick out of the case on your 400?

I'd say about 3". I would go measure it, but I have it stored an hour away. It sticks out enough for me to wrap my hand on it.

~3" would be for a long input '85+ np205 (and adapter)

4.5" is for a short input np205 up to '84
