Hey everyone, so unfortunately the transmission on the Blazer decided to shit the bed. It left me stranded, and now I have to rebuild it. I was wondering what the best, most complete rebuild kit is. I have a couple researched, but there isn't much information on wether it is for a TH400, TH350, or TH700r4. It is a 1986 Chevrolet K5 Blazer. The transmission is a TH700r4

If anyone has a better suggestion please let me know. If you could provide me with a link that would be fantastic. I was also advised to rebuild the transmission pump? Like all of the rotors and such. I'm not very knowledgeable in that so asking for advice and comments. Thank you

Always been a fan of transtar brand .

And get a reman converter or have yours professionally flushed and checked .

Get 2 cans of kooler flush to rinse the inrad cooler real good and the lines .

@Greg Ducato could possibly help you with a full kit to get you covered .

I'll look into it. Is there a specific link you could provide me with?

Unfortunate your 700r4 quit.
There are some good updates, including some Corvette spec parts to do to make them more reliable.
Before you order parts, which I am uncertain of how difficult and expensive. Try to contact @Greg Ducato. If calling California is possible I can get the number of my trans builder, he only does GM transmissions, and my 700r4 has 20k miles+ to date. He loves to talk too. I'm sure he can at least get you good information.

Okay I’ll try to get in contact, but I am not based out of the United States so it might be difficult. Thank you for the help!

It's weird that RockAuto is throwing so many different trans kits in the same category. The 700 was the most common and I didn't think you could even get a 400 in a K5. Your first clue would be the shape of the pan gasket. A 700 pan is almost square. If the kit has a vacuum modulator, it's definitely not for a 700.

Here's an example of one: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=5896224&cc=1050679&pt=8512&jsn=1007. Beware, though, they don't seem to necessarily use the picture of the actual kit. I would research what you need somewhere else and then figure out who sells that part number.

I completely zoned out with that! Looking for the pan gasket is a great idea. Also thank you for the link as well as the advice

A shop can get the parts, or has them on-hand. It's also possible your transmission isn't really an '86, but has been swapped before. Chances are, it's a 30-spline input (for choosing a torque converter) and does not have the later auxiliary valve body, but someone will have to check. Some kits would have both styles of gaskets included. Be aware there were a number of changes over the years and it's popular to upgrade older units with newer parts. Also sometimes you just have to use what's available. This is a big rabbit hole of research and compatibility, but again, any good shop will be aware of this stuff and what parts must change together. Do they give you a warranty if you carry the parts in?

Just so everyone is on the same page, @ Greg Saldana is in Panama.
Me I have no clue how hard or easy it is to get parts or the cost. I doubt the shops in Panama see many 700r4 let alone k5's. Though the Military may have left a number of cucv in Panama.
Check out a company called Sunnex. They have some updated parts to solve some of weaknesses in the 700r4. The pre 91 700r4 had number weaknesses.

Good luck

I really wish that was the case, but American trucks aren't as common here, especially with this particular one being 40 years old. It's easier for me to order online from the big websites (rock-auto, eBay, amazon) because they will actually have the products. I do appreciate the input though

Hahahah yep! Getting parts is difficult, and if I do happen to find them they are twice or sometimes three times as much as they are online. K5's are definitely not regular traffic, and the ones that are here are usually diesel which means they have th400s. I will check that company out, thanks for the input as always.

The TH-400 was only in the military CUCV version. TH-350 was available through 1985 and the manual all the way through. Other than that, all Blazers 82+ got the TH-700, including diesels.
