TH700R4 tail shaft swap HELP!

Hey guys,
my 700r has 200k on it now and i showing its age and i have a friend who is will to trade his freshly rebuilt th700r4 for my SBC long block but his transmission is a 2wd long output shaft and i need it short for my 4wd K5 can i swap output shafts from my old one to his new one?? oh and his trans is a "K" case out of a 4x4 just rebuilt for a 2wd.

depends on your patience and if you have a book to look at. Me personally i throw autos in the junk pile for a standard.

best take it to a tranny shop for 50-75 bucks.

you need to pull the WHOLE tranny apart to swap just the tail shaft out.

its the first part in basicly and the last part out on tear down.

I second that motion sweetk30. Even if you have the special tools to compress the drums to get the snap rings off, there are alot of tricks and special care when working with that tranny.

yeah if its that in depth i would not wanna do it at all.. still am going to hate to have a freshly rebuilt tranny takin a part but i geuss you gotta do watcha gotta do!

best way to verify it was fresh rebuilt. not just cleaned up.
