This might belong in the lounge... sorry guys but wanted to share this with you.. one of my best friends rolled his 86 K30 while going down the highway.. short story is engine died.. hydroboost died..no brakes and steering wheel locked, so off the road at like 60mph along a guard rail up a hill rolled it like 1.5times and now this... its totaled.. but he had his seatbelt on!! We are just thankful hes alive and walked away with just a few scratches. Plan is to put drivetrain on a burb.. everything seems to be good, engine started up 2nd try, gotta just check for axle being straight. The truck is already stripped to the frame. Found out the frame was so bent that it dented the headers! Just be careful out there guys, and wear your seatbelt's. He's a member on here.. so he'll chime in im sure. And now for the pictures...

Glad to hear no body was injured. :eek1:
But how & why did the steering wheel lock with just a stalled engine ?? Did he turn the ignition switch back trying to restart the engine ??

yeah i too am curious why the wheels and steering locked on the stall. Good thing he walked away but thats sucks, looked like a nice rig. In my experiece with rollovers either people walk away or they're critcally injured, nothing inbetween.

Actually with the loss of power the steering in these vehicles can be extremely tight, even while in motion. My Astro van lost power steering at 70 due to blowing the high pressure hose out at the pump, and it was all I could do to turn it a small amount. Especially in a crash situation, it may have been more than he was ready for.

Glad he was unhurt, especially seeing the damage to the truck. Just another reason that I always wear my seat belt.

My Dodge Van threw a PS belt in Tennessee when I was headed home to Alabama. It was about a 4.5 hour drive, and I had to strong-arm it the whole way on the interstate. Even at 75mph, something as slight as changing lanes was a bitch. When I finally got home, both arms were shaking from being worked so hard to keep it on the road. In retrospect, I probably should've waited till the sun came up got a new PS belt. :doah:

Too many people don't realize the difference between rack and pinion steering, and the power assist that our trucks use. Rack and pinion is a little hard to turn without power, power assist is extremely stiff without power, and if you aren't prepared for it, it will really suprise you how hard it is to make a vehicle like ours turn.

Glad he's ok but I'm wondering about the steering too... is he the little dude next to the truck in the pics?

I lost my fuel pump doing 65 on the freeway so obviously my engine died but even with my little GT steering wheel and 38.5's I managed to get it to the side of the highway... I'm not saying it was easy but it definately wasn't impossible...

anyways glad he's fine and lets see some pics of the tear down :)
