I was hoping to reply in Rob's now epic long thread documenting his journey with a brain tumor and lung cancer, but unfortunately can't seem to do so without a membership so here goes.

My name is Clint. I am a cancer survivor and was fortunate to meet Rob and his family in person this past weekend. I found out he had cancer on another forum and couldn't help but reach out since he doesn't live too far from me. We chatted for a few hours and I learned about his journey, how he had posted ramblings on this forum as a result of his tumor and how he had received overwhelming support from this community. I am sure he has already expressed his gratitude, but I also want to thank you all so much for being there for him.

It is so difficult to face the uncertainty and fear of what he experienced. I could tell from the way he talked about you that he was deeply moved by the support you gave. It is hard to accept help some times, but it came out in the conversation that he really needed it. You really helped him get back on his feet. Even if just with words you were able to lift his spirits and help him fight. In my book you are all caregivers for Rob and I want to say thank you, thank you, thank you!

Rob, you sir are a hero. Neither of us asked to be in this survivor club, but we are bless with a lifetime membership. You are a good man and you have a great family. Sharing your journey will help others. If you ever need anything, anything at all, don't hesitate to ask. You've got my number - call any time with any news good or bad. If and when you have a party to celebrate survival, please drop me a line. I would be honored to join. :waytogo:

I have never met Rob in person but certainly hope to some day soon. I have been a supporter of Rob with words from the beginning and will continue to do so in the future. I'm just glad that he is beating this crap for himself and his boy and family.

Rob, when you read this buddy, don't forget that someday hopefully soon we will meet in person.

Clint,

It truely was an honor to meet you as well. You are a true friend and I'm am so very happy you reached out to me and wanted to meet me and my family. When we can have a survival celibration party you most certainly will get an invite as will ALL CK5 member weather it be local or as far as some are willing to make the trip to come join me to celibrate with my family in surviving this beast.

I know you can not see pics here without a membership but there is a Pic of the Day thread and I posted my new favorite hat, my CK5 hat that I wore when we met. It now has the Survivor pin you gave me on it. I placed it on the left where my tumor was in my knogen. It seemed fitting to have that pin on the left to hopefully protect that spot from ever getting one again. HOPE. We all could not survive without that word.

Clint, like I had explained to you when we met, I now understand why people who have lost the use of their legs or have lost a limb or the use of something sometimes say, if they had the opportunity to have their legs back and never have to go through what they have...would they? Alot of strong people say No, I wouldn't. It changed my life in such a positive way and I like who I am today so No. I understand this today, where as 6 months ago, I could not even begin to understand that mentality. Thank you Clint. I would like to post your survival video here if you're ok with it. If not I understand. Talk with you soon buddy :waytogo:

Mods, please move this to where you feel is appropriate. Would like ALL to be able to see/read it though, including the op aka, TheBandit. Thank you.

Cool beans.... keep spreading the word.... there is hope against this terrible disease.... doctors are making great strides against this killer...

And god bless anyone who is or has been a "caregiver" for a family member with cancer....unless you have been there first hand,,,you can't imagine the impact you make in that persons life just by being there for them....

God bless you survivors......and live each day to the fullest.....:woot:

Thank you, and I could not agree more brother. Watch Clints video, it's very touching. I want to do this too at a cancer event, I just don't know if I honestly could speak in front of a crown like Clint does. That takes alot of cahones to speak in front of people like that. Makes me nervous just thinking about it.

Dam, that was an awesome video, I have sat and listened to the oncologist tell my mom the same words, "you have lymphoma", as you know Rob, those words can shatter your life....having a couple friends lost to cancer, and having a couple survivors still close, it is the most awesome thing to still be a part of their life.
Congrats on your success so far Rob, and to Clint as well!
I wear orange!

Thank you, and I knew/know anyone who watches the video will be touched by it. It is very inspireing. It is to me to keep up the good fight. My mom had breast cancer and had a full Mastectomy, but was too old to have radiation and chemo. Honestly don't exactly know what she died from. Thought her ailing health and age had caught up with her and she just could not fight anymore. I had forgotten my mom had lung cancer aswell, and had some of one of her lungs removed too. They removed part of it during her Quadruple bypass surgery. Crazy!

Is this the same "The Bandit" from the OFN forums? :dunno:

If so... A warm welcome to you here at CK5 my friend! :waytogo:

Thanks all for the kind words. I am honored you would watch the video of me speaking. That was at an American Cancer Society (ACS) event last year with about 1,000 people in the audience. The message was geared toward rallying volunteers for their largest fundraising event, Relay for Life (RFL). RFL is a 24 hour team relay event put on by local communities and volunteers to raise cancer awareness and raise money toward the many great services ACS provides. If you are interested in joining the fight through ACS, take a look at www.relayforlife.org

There are many other great volunteer organizations that work to fight cancer in many different ways, some geared toward specific diagnoses, services, etc. I can't urge strongly enough to get involved if you want to make a tangible difference. I use words to motivate and that's my way of giving back to the community that helped me get through it.

Rob, I'm sure with a bit of practice you could stand in front of a million people and tell your story. In fact you are already doing that in a sense right here on CK5. It's easier than you think because you know your story - you lived it. All you have to do is share it in a meaningful way. But right now your number 1 priority is getting and staying well. For that we are behind you 1,000%
