the guy that posted the 1st gen blazer with the duramax posted a bunch of info on that. I don't recall his user name though.

There are pics of it in the technical discussion group under prerunner/Desert Racer section. Look for the Fullsize Prerunner Pics post near the bottom of the post.

Hope this helps,
Ray

Yeah...I saw that too.
One question.
What the hell is with that bell-crank steering garbage?:eek1:
Why not just full hydro?

that was a sweet truck. definitely shouldnt have been rippin it with that much power on curvy sandy roads. what ashame. im sure he plans to rebuild it, the only thing messed up im sure is the body, hopefully nothing happened to the motor.

pics of that before and after wreckage in the prerunner section here......this one........?.....after i got the comp straighted out i didnt know others gave the link but heres some anyway....its cool looking and a shame at the same time.

A bellcrank setup would be a nice way to keep a mechanical steering setup on a front 4-link... heck, that's what I intend to do on my own build.

I have to agree, his setup looks a little too "WTF-complicated". He could have done it a lot more simply with a stock "front-to-back" steering arm actuating a front-to-rear draglink with the bellcrank under the driver's seat area, then straight forward again to the steering arm.

Do it right and you have a zero bump-steer mechanical design...

If you afre reffering to the big yellow dually. it has the bell crank system going back up under the drive and has 0 Bumpsteer

I think that yellow suspension confused me....looking again, this doesn't appear to be the same truck.

Any more detailed underside shots of the rolled truck? I noticed that the original website (and domain) have expired.

I'm always curious to see bell-crank setups, especially when they were set up properly and worked well.

I don't have any really good photos, but the basic concept is this:

Steering box (stock position and pitman arm) with a long draglink as if you're doing crossover steering, but the draglink doesn't cross to the passenger side of the axle. It goes straight back along the framerail towards the driver's seat area.

The other end of that draglink connects to a glorified shackle (bellcrank) which has similar hole-to-hole spacing as the pitman arm to allow for full motion of the steering arm.

Finally there is a second draglink that comes off that bellcrank and heads straight back to the steering arm (also on the driver's side of the axle) which then actuates the steering.

Basically it's a two long draglinks forming a shallow "V" from the steering box, back to the bellcrank and then forward again to the front axle. The concept is that if you match it well to the link points at the frame end, the suspension will be able to cycle and not have any effect on the steering. Basically the steering system travels in the exact same arc as the front links do.....which is SWEET! :D

Anyway, that's the concept. A few guys have reportedly done it but there aren't many photos around.... most guys just give up and throw full-hydro on the front axle and call it good. Of course most of those guys also have trailers and tow rigs. :wink1:

If you're following my "Might As Well" thread, you'll eventually get to see one since I plan on doing it with my front 4-link.... and I take lots of photos of everything (as most of you guys know).
