We are Proud to offer the best in underdrive technology to the CK5 crowd:
blackboxblack.JPG

The Blackbox is an auxillary high (1:1) / low (2.72) gearbox, that is designed to fit between your current transmission/transfer case. This gives you a number of possible ratios:
Blackbox High - Transfer case low
BlackBox Low - Transfer Case High
BlackBox Low - Transfer case Low (multiplied together)
BlackBox High - Transfer Case High
In essence, adding the BlackBox to your current transfer case gives you FOUR speed/crawl selections for your transfer case.
I'm sure you CK5 boys know the advanatges adding gearing like this will provide - so let me get down to the raw specs:
This is the ONLY underdrive where the output shaft is directly fixed and supported by bearings at bolt ends. This means significantly more support for both the planetary gears and output shaft.

We machine the case bodys from solid 6061-T6 billet roundstock, which are then hard anodized for durability and corrosion resistance.
Our output shafts are 4340 through hardened alloy steel

Our gears are a 6 pinion planetary system, originally designed by New Venture Gear which rates the gearset to 5500ft-lbs of torque.
Our shift mechanism features adjustable detent pressure, and servicable shift fork pads.

The BlackBox uses a standard 6 bolt round pattern used by GM, Ford, Dodge and Jeep, and can also can be adapted to most applications.
The Blackbox also includes a cable shifter for high/low selection
The Total Black Box Kit Includes The Following:
1 Black Box Planetary Gear Unit 2.72:1 Ratio
1 Mounting Ring and Foot
1 Shifter Assembly (Cable)
12 Mounting Studs
2 Mounting Gaskets
Retail Price: $1599.00 USD

So I'm an idiot. What's this for? Rock Crawlers I would assume?

Not nessisarily, we sell a bunch of these to the mud guys too who want a lower gear than a stoc 205, but not as low as a 203/205 in double low.

Gear choices:

205 in low, BlackBox in Hi: 1.96:1
BlackBox in low, 205 in Hi: 2.72:1
Both In low: 5.33:1

So its not always about how low you can get, but how many choices you have for the terrain in front of you.

for some of us trying to build on a budget... do you offer the housing/adapter shaft seperate if we happen to have a couple of freshly rebuilt Np241s hanging around? Sweet set up though... been wanting for quite some time..

so to put the one pictured in between a th400 and fig 8 short 32 spline 205

it would go:
th400 - round 205 adapter-black box-??magic adapter??-my fig8 205

what are the hidden costs? shifters, adapters, mounts?

You are correct, you need a fig8->round adaptor to mate your 205 up to the blackbox. We sell these for $169. They are 5/8" thick billet steel.

The Blackbox price includes a mount to sandwich between the 205 and Blackbox, also includes a single shifter for the BlackBox.

You can add 205 shifters if you like to make it a triple assembly, but it is not required, you could make your own 205 shifters.

As long as your round TH400 adaptor is near flush with the output shaft length, it'll work.

You have a picture of what the adapter looks like?

I'm interested in this as well. I have a TH400 that had a fig. 8 NP205 behind it and I'm interested to see how all of this would go together.

Here is the fig.8 to round adapter.
