The Cheap auction find

I’m surprised I didn’t get more hate from you after all the troubles with your 4500[/QUOTE]

Well now that it is fixed, all is right with the world again. Loving the OD/gearing/tire combo. It was worth the hassle. I had a bad shift collar on 3rd gear.

I had an extra cab ‘97 for many years that had a 5.7 and NV4500 in it, one of my most favorite trucks that I’ve ever owned.

what are you waiting for?
Oh, I know, probably some warmer weather to start one of those trucks to go get it.

P.S. - I still daily drive mine. What's your excuse? Is your paint too shiny, or is your truck in too many pieces?

I guess you could drive Dumpy around.

Some minor updates in the way of parts stock piling for this truck. Huge thanks to @GWeakland620 for making this a possibility. Made a day trip down to Topeka do deliver this TH350/205 from my 78. Having rafters and a chain come along is nice

Got to Greg’s place and loaded this beauty up. 4.10 geared from an 03 Ford. 6F2DB1CB-E412-40E3-8C6D-D5A48D759A2D.jpeg

Having the axle and a ford 205 in the back helped me realize my rear shocks are toast in the 2006. Handled about like an old Lincoln not a 2500HD

Glad I could help with the shock diagnosis :thumb:

As for me, now I get to decided what route I am going to go with the t-case. Bolt the 205 to the 700R4? Leave the 208 and start on the doubler? Build the doubler with the 700R4 or TH400? Decisions decisions.

I'd go TH400 to 205 then add the doubler if you cant do it all at once. . The only advantage with the 700R4 is the lower first gear maybe but I'm sure for your rig you don't need overdrive anymore.

But with 4.56 gears and 40's, I do kind of need the lower first gear. Someone said that the TH400 and 205 that I would be way worse than my current 700r4/208 combo for gearing.
I also had the thought that I might stick with the 700r4 when I add the doubler. It's a good 700r4 that has withheld about 10 years of hard abuse, so I know its a good unit. The TH400 would need to be checked out as the condition is unknown.

I vote doubler because it’s not my money :haha:

Too bad some idiot forgot to bring the 32spline input down with him, some people :doah:

So don't even mess with the 203/205?

Also, I think the traditional 203/205 is starting to become somewhat obsolete with the advancement in reduction boxes. In a trail rig, you can never have too many gear options. Not saying traditional doubler is bad, but it's really only a 3 speed case (1:1; 2:1; 4:1). A traditional doubler will always be better than no doubler at all, but you will never regret it down the road getting the rig setup with a reduction box in front of that 205. But like @Truckman4life said...sometimes it does depend on the budget.

Enough high jacking of this thread...what are the overall plans for this truck again? SAS and use for farm stuff, or wheeling, or? I love me some 90's style Chevy's. I'm heavily contemplating using one as a platform to throw all the good parts from my blazer into after I beat the livin' crap out of my blazer some more

I've often had the same thoughts, but more towards a 6.5 Tahoe 2dr/4dr.

I'm thinking of a mid 90's extended cab pickup that I back-half the rear, narrow the front and make a truggy out of it. Link the rear, leafs on the front with an exo cage. I could swap my axles/wheels/tires over, and if I get the half-ton version truck, I can just swap over my titan/205 with cable shifters right over and bolt it up to the 4l60e too. Still have enough room to take the family if I wanted, but a bit more nimble all around than the box of a blazer...we shall see. I just love the OBS chevy's...such a good looking truck
