I am going to build a new dash.

If you don't know this is going in Horton my truggy buggy truck thingy.

It will be a pure function dash, I hope to make it look nice but some of it won't I am sure just because of what I want to put up there.

So things I need to put in the dash.

Gauges and switches for various things. a place to mount my phone ( I will use the GPS on it for speedo) The phone mount will have a hardwired charger. CB has to go in there somewhere as does an external speaker for said CB.

Only heater I plan on having will be a summit mojave style heater. But since I have no windshield don't need any defrost action.

On the other side I want storage, there is an awful lot of room once you get all the ducting and HVAC controls and components out of the way.

My plan for the passenger side is a couple ammo cans, a storage of some sort for snacks and the such, some sort of built in cooler and not sure what else.

If you were building a dash for your off road only rig what would you have up there.

I plan on building it mostly out of thin gauge sheet metal

Until the cell phone companies truly standardize the charger plug, and location, I wouldn't hard wire a charger on the dash. What if your phone breaks? Now you have a charger that may or may not work with the new phone.

If it were me, I would do the phone holder as a sliding setup, so it could work with any number of phones, and keep a single 12v outlet to plug the charger into. I would also put something there to wrap the excess cord around so it isn't hanging around and getting caught on stuff.

Beyond that, I would have ham radio, CB, gauges, switches to control lighting and heat, and I have no idea what I would do with the other 2/3rds of the dash.

Phone chargers are about 75% of the way towards being universal. Everything Ive seen seems to be using the USB Mini 2.0 plug. Hell even my Casio Ravine Tough Phone uses it and the models prior are renowned for stupid odd plugs.

Yes, and I think they have all agreed to standardize, the problem is the location. While they may all use the same plug, they don't all use the same location. My current phone, an older Motorola, has it at the bottom left, while the newer ones I have been looking at have it in several places including the bottom and left and right sides. That's my only concern with hard wiring a plug like that.

i would say make sure you have a spot for a normal cigarette plug.
also try to wire in a "hot" usb port for use with charger.
dont know how crazy you wanna go but maybe hook up an inverter behind dash and have a plug in or two for random **** (air mattress inflater?)

Gun storage.

Start the vid at 3:45. ****y video. I know there is a better one out there.

My plan is to just wire it into 12 volts so no plug in or anything, or make the plug in hidden and very secure. I plan to use the GPS on my phone for my speedo and I may at a later date secure a cheap amp and 2 speakers and use my phone as the radio. So it won't really be hardwired just a wire that won't be flopping around

I plan on getting an inverter big enough to run a grinder, need to do some testing on em a bit before I buy. A hot usb port is a good idea too. I also plan to wire up a couple normal cig lighter connections

A working gas gauge is always important

Whatever:rolleyes: mine works it just isn't accurate

How about some good cup holders?

I have quite the plan for cup holders we will see how it goes

Let's put our finger on the trigger and wave the gun at my family.

:haha::haha:I just watched that!!! :haha::haha:

I'm not surprised that he doesn't know how to safely handle a gun, he supports anti-gun groups
