Been living in this house for around 17 years. Had always planned to replace the garage but life hadn't worked that way. Well the stars aligned and I'm finally getting the long awaited 3 car garage.

Worst thing about this garage was, it was about 6-8" lower than the alley. All the rain and winter melt would run into the garage. The bottom sill plates were completely rotted out.

Actually did a lot of the initial demolition with the pickup and a tow strap. Got a bunch of video of that. I'll stitch the pieces together and post that up tomorrow possibly.

After that, a friend of mine saw what was going on and showed up with the skid loader. That made short work of the rest of it.

Shouldn't this be in "The Driveway" with the rest of the building threads?

:dunno:

The garage IS in the driveway!.....

Yeah, maybe we need a "builds other than vehicles" forum next!....

Yeah, I don't know where it goes. Mods can move anywhere their heart desires.

I put it in the garage because its about the garage. Of course there is a driveway involved as well.

I got nothing...other than congrats on finally building a new garage!

I built a two car on my first home and it was awesome to build it exactly the way I wanted it. I did learn a ton about what I wanted that I should have done (hard airlines, external power, lift, 220 etc). What are you aiming for?

Is it going to have a potty? I have long dreamed of a garage with a potty in it. lol.

sure beats pissin in the sink
:D

And Kert/Kurt/Kirt/Qirt (can never remember) I'm starting to have dreams about my front bumper, forecasted to continue for next couple weeks. . Is this normal or should I see a doctor?

Congrats Kert!
That old one was a safety hazard video waiting to happen

Pretty basic really. Parking spot for the wife will be closest to the house. For her convenience. She also drives the smallest and probably most maneuverable vehicle and at the same time the groceries and etc. Makes sense to have her closest to the house. My parking spot will be in the center with a 1' taller door. The third spot is pretty much up in the air. I'm sure there will be tools, benches, lawn mowers or snow blower depending up on the season of course. I don't think i'll be doing anything so fancy as a lift. I wouldn't mind a television, maybe a small fridge. An air compressor would be nice.

Nope, no potty in the garage. I'd rather have the space for the garage type stuff.

Kert, and its normal. Rest at ease.

So you are probably pouring a new pad as well then?

Martin

I have a contractor doing the dirt work and the concrete work. I don't have time, tools nor the inclination to do the concrete.

Is it done yet?

2nd dumpster showed up today for the last little bit of the old garage and garden shed to be dumped into. Skid loader comes back tomorrow evening to finish up that and start busting out the old crete. Hopefully by the end of the week the concrete guy is starting his part of the project.

As far as the garage itself, I'm building that. I think I can whip through that pretty quick with my son helping me in the evenings and weekends. We have air nailers and the like so it should go up pretty quickly.

All that being said, I can't even begin to tell you how much I'm looking forward to having a decent garage. Zimmer is 100% correct. The old garage was a disaster waiting to happen. It was pretty much junk when I bought the place a long time ago. Not worth fixing then so I didn't spend any time or cash to keep it up. 17 years of ignoring it and it was in pretty bad shape. All I can tell you for sure is this coming winter will be the first in my life that I don't have to scrape windows in the morning!

Kristle is looking forward to having a garage. As soon as we sell our house in Idaho Falls. Been a similar time period for her scraping Windows. Cepts we had a garage I just took it over

For a while there I was putting a piece of cardboard over my windshield at night. It did prevent the need for scraping windows however, when you got some sleet that turned into ice, it became a bit of a problem.
