I just was given a 2005 Ford Taurus from my Uncle. Loaded with the V-6. 22,000 miles. Anything I should watch for? I've never owned a Ford "car" before except for my 1975 Pinto I had in High School.

22k on the odo. Just drive it and change the oil when required. I have friends with over 200k on them.

Yea,, I've heard good things about the Taurus and have never seen any real problems with them when I help my friend out at his garage. I was just trying to get some responses from Taurus owners.
Thank-You

Keep a close eye on that oval-shaped blue emblem- it's sure to cause you some trouble. As the saying goes "They circled the problem"..........:rotfl:

J/K, brother. Sounds like a good score. Drive it 'til it dies. :thumb:

I just picked up a non running 86 f-150 with 115k on it. 4wd, 302, 4 spd. No rust, XLT Lariat, full power everything. Was not running. Brought it home on the trailer. $500 for purchase, $100 in parts. Runs strong.

Now need to sell it before someone thinks I like fords.

There's good? Oh yeah, free is good. I have only driven a few, but when I think of Taurus, I think "slipping tranny". Maybe they've fixed the issues, but it's probably worth researching a bit and being anal with the maintenance.

Well I'm pushing really hard at the mid 40's so my day's of pounding the $hit out of vehicles,(especially cars), has grown out of me. $hit, I just thought of something, I haven't owned a car,(for my use), since I sold my 78 Z28 back in 1985.It's been Trucks, Bronco's and Jeeps this whole time.
Thanks again for the comments.

Tranny for sure, out of the four that our family and wifes family have had, four of them ended up with major tranny issues. Our check tranny light used to come on all the time, we would take it to the dealer and they wouldn't have a clue. I hate to say it here but my wife will be driving a Toyota for a very long time.

x2 on the tranny, generally they are good for 100k under normal driving and with no services , some would go over 200k with regular service and some when beat on would die before the 3/36 was up.

:D Disclaimer....... Most of my expierence with Ford's was from 96-02 when I worked at a dealer, so newer stuff my differ :dunno:

We use to have a 2000 ish Taurus with the 3.0 v6 at my old job. It got regular oil changes and tires when needed, but that was just about all the attention it ever got. It had well over 200,000 miles on it when the headgasket blew in 2008 and it apparently had cracked a head. To my surprise, the owner of the company had the head replaced with a junkyard unit and kept on using it. I guess you can't ask for much lower maintenance than that huh?

To put it in perspective, in 216,000 miles my K5 is currently on:
engine: 2 (just replaced original)
tranny: 5
t-case: 2
rear axle: 5
front axle: 3
driveshafts: 5

and the list goes on... Drive it till the wheels fall off, then duct tape them back on and drive it some more!

When I worked at the ford dealer we did quite a few trannys in theose cars, I do remember one car where the machining on where the oil filter gasket meets the block was so rough that it leaked there.

Overall they cant be too bad if they sold as many as they did. I say drive it till it dies.

And as much as a chevy guy as I am, ford made some damn good trucks from 86 up to 96. I dont care what anybody says, Ive been around them since I was born, and wouldnt hesitate to own another one if I find one I like. (yes the TTB is garbage)
