Well, I thought I would post up some pics of my project. My plan was to build a vehicle that would allow for the wife, kid, and dog to go camping and exploring. I bought a 80'c cucv frame that had been shortened to the wheelbase of a blazer. I then bolted in a set of 64" rear springs w/a shackle flip, a set of 2 1/2" superide front springs w/a longer shackle, and a 60/14 bolt combo. Being from the northeast it is hard to find a solid body, so I opted to build a newer style blazer. I sourced a cab from an 89 pickup, and a 6' body, built new mounts for the cab, and I have just finished prepping the cab and body for the graft.

Very cool idea. I like it.:waytogo: You're gonna feel bad about all the work you put in after it gets smashed up, but it's still cool.:D

cool build and definitely a unique idea. You will be the first person ever with a convert top late model blazer.

dont forget the 88-up box style tapers in to the rear unlike the 87 older stuff. that might be the only big problem.

The box taper shouldn't be too much of a problem as the front is about the same as the cab. As far as a top is concerned I think I will get a nice slimline cap, and cut the front to fit the cab.

Nope, seen several. Made like his or Blazers/Tahoes/Yukon 2 doors with the top removed.

I have also seen some blazer converts. Mine is actually going to have a wheelbase of 114", which is a little longer than a blazer.

Urethane bushings showed up yesterday.....now I can mount the body to the frame :)

Exactly how are you going about doing that? The cab portion and the bed portion should have the same style of mount (two halves that sandwich the frame, but mount solid to the body). Will the rear frame rails accept the cab-type mounts?

You are exactly right, I will be using cab bushings to mount the bed. I am building a couple of pedestal mounts that will attach to the side of the frame for the center mounts. For the rear I am building a crossmember. The front of the bed sits directly above the rear cab mounts. I think this will give me plenty of support. When I bend up the cage I am also going to tie it into the frame with urethane mounts which should only give the body more support.

Does anyone know if the electronic hvac trucks have a stand alone harness, or does it tie into the main harness? My donor truck has ac, and I would like to swap it into mine.

I am also looking for a good way to make the doors removable. I figure I have two sets of doors so I might as well make some half doors.

Ok, so I haven't had time to work on the truck for a while, but hopefully I will get the mounts on for the body this week. Gotta get this done .

I finally got the body welded to the cab (mostly). I just need to finish up a few spots. The mounts will be going in this weekend. I picked up a set of 5.13 geared axles, and a clocking ring to run on a 241. Oh yea, I also got my tires on the truck.
