Looks like a cool project. I've never torn into one but I had a friend in school that had one that looked like that with about 400,000 miles on it.

At least it's got the good V-8 motor in it, most of the time they come with that diesel. slow underpowered dirty noisy, [but they do last a long time and get good MPG] Those V-8's are good runners .

You got a good project there, ive owned a few of them, never the 4.5 though. Hows the air ride suspension on that thing? looks like its still holding air!

the 4.5 is the model/engine size. both MBZ and BMW used the engine liters as as the model series. ie. 4.5 being a 4.5 liter engine. The 4.5 also happens to be a higher end benz, with all sorts of bonus stuff like air ride suspension and 4 wheel disc brakes.
