So, I've pretty well always been a chevy/gmc guy. However, my dad recently passed away, and I've inherited his 1990 f150 4.9 straight 6. It is a great truck, and I intend to keep it. My question, Is there a Ford F150 forum that anyone knows of that is the caliber and quality of ck5.com? I've searched, and for the most part, with the ones I've found, I feel like i'm talking to 13 year olds. They're discussing elementary stuff, and don't seem to have any real gurus. Thanks in advance.

I agree, the non GM forum pickins are slim. This is a pretty diverse crowd so I wouldn't be surprised if folks here had a lot of unbiased knowledge. Check out the other rides section, @83ChevyK5Blazer has a very similar truck and has started an overland / camper / do all build on it.

Don’t look for F-150. Search for Ford 300 straight 6 people. It has been years, but my class worked on a few of those trucks with that engine. I remember finding some pretty good tech out there at the time. Unfortunately, my saved work favorites went away when I retired. The one problem I remember those trucks had over and over was the power steering pump shaft would get loose and the serpentine belt would walk off the pulley every few weeks.

We used to have a Ford EFI 300 guru over on the M715 zone. But, he bought a diesel Rabbit p/u years ago and went to live the unplugged hippy life out in the desert.

Your point about 13 year olds is so true. I have a large number of vehicles that span wildly different interest and types. Amazingly enough I have found that this site and Miata net seem to be the crossroads of the automotive internet. I get more and better BMW or Porsche tech on the Miata site than on dedicated forums. Better 6.2 diesel tech here than on Steel Soldiers sometimes. The current events of the world that are posted here or on Miata net are more relevant and accurate than any news channel will tell you as well.

Sure, Pirate or I8mud might have tech, but you have to wade through so much BS to find it that normally you don’t or it isn’t worth it. This site is very rare in my opinion.

Not 1990 f150 sites, but fortification.com and net. Used to great sites, I belong to both, but mostly the 67-72 site.
I almost bought a 90 4x4 with 4.9, really should have. I was after the drive line for 67 highboy. Decided to keep the FE engine.
As a fleet mechanic had slew of bull nose Fords, 250s and up. Some experience with them.
Other rides section here, eventually CK5 will become all thing automotive

Condolences very hard losing a parent

I bought a 2003 7.3 Superduty a while back and have kind of settled on the FTE forum ford-trucks.com. I mostly spend time on the 7.3 part of the forum, but there's been some really knowledgeable guys on there. Notably the head engineers (now retired) of the transmission program 4r100 for the truck and one of the chassis engineers that was also part of the 7.3 development. I don't know that the 7.3's are representative of the whole though as they're more work trucks.

There are a bunch of f150s out in the world, so you're gonna get all types I think.

Yeah FTE can be hit or miss. I've been a member there for years, but don't frequent much.
E van section is pretty dead,
Found fordification better for 67-72 F trucks. Haven't checked out if they have ranchero section, nor Bronco as there are better dedicated Early Bronco sites

I have a 2004 E450 RV V10 that likes to shut off cruising down the highway at any speed and at various other times. It will not restart for 15 to 30 minutes. No codes and cranks over real good. No dash warning lites, no gauges, no power accessories (brakes and steering) I'm pretty sure it is electrical but have not found the gremlin. Any ideas? Hey...Ford does not want to verify the probe even exists! e? It is a big time safety hazard. Any insight will be appreciated.

Seen 2 different F150s from the early 2000s that had random shutting off issues. One would shut off everything electrical when he would mash the pedal to pass and take the engine to like 5k rpm. That one was an alternator. It would all come back on by itself though after a little bit. He said it was spooky when it would do it at night and everything would go black. The other one had a random dying issue and it was a bad battery. My wife had a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the same random dying issue that was also a battery. I believe a plate broke free and it would short out and kill it or something like that.
Yours possibly sounds like a fuel pump getting hot. Hard to say though without checking it out and knowing exactly what's going on.

YES! YES! Wading through BS on pirate. I get nauseous when pirate is the first hit on google.
