:doah: ok guys. the ppl at o'rileys dont know the difference between a tie rode or a drag link. so i was thinking if yall could give me a part number for both moog tre that fit my 85 k5. 10bolt has the long bar in the middle with the 2 seperate tre i could roll up in there, order then by number and look like a boss..lol.. i talked with the manager and he to was dumb founded. ps next check i'll be a member if all goes well

Oreilly's website is really good for looking up parts. It will also give you store inventory, well at least if they have it or not. I use it and napaonline to find 99% of what I want.

yea i checked online but im a lil iffy. i would like to hold the part in my hand to make sure of what im getting. but every one they say they can get has to be ordered and takes 24 hrs. none in stock...i know im not the only old school chevy rolling around.

This ^^

I love the looks on their faces when I do this...I can hear them thinking "here's that crazy old man again...":pimp:

However, sometimes, there's a not so pretty young gal there...she really is into autos so we'll do it the long way....she goes out of her way to get what I need. She rawks :waytogo:

haha. i know what you mean. its like they see me before i get in the door and scramble to find something to do so they dont have to deal with me.

Parts store is only as good as the parts guy. Walk in and tell them to give you the moog book, and then tell them the numbers you want. When doing some stuff its just easier to flip open a catalog like u joints and front chassis stuff.

ok.. i have the 3 piece tierod solid long middle bar.. so can some one verify es2233l and es 2234r as being the tre i need?

For suspension stuff you gotta make them get the moog book out to see the diagrams. Most parts guys suck.

The O'Reilly's by me is the best of the chain parts houses BUT you either have to go when the right guy is working or hold their hand while looking stuff up.

That said, I looked in the part #'s post and while it did show those TRE part numbers the post did not list what year so I couldn't tell if it was referring to first or second design.

You expected a 'counter jockey',
at a place that sells Car Bling, to KNOW what he was talking about!? :haha:

That's rich... :haha:

Sh*t.... I've even had to argue with the guys at parts houses.
Had to grab the parts book, look it up myself, and STILL have the guy tell me I was wrong.

Some of these guys are just idiots, others are stubborn jackasses.
Then, sometimes, I get the guys that just know what they're talking about,
Rarely anymore, but every once in a blue moon... Someone has GOOD advice! :haha:

But, I also tend to find the people/shops I like,
Then, come in when the staff IQ point average has reached appropriate levels.
I blame/thank my father for this attitude of mine... :doah:

*My old man has been the "Ass. Manager, at a Kragen, that knows EVERYTHING."
For a lot of years.
I've heard EVERY crazy parts-chain story over the years....
(From the perspective of a Hot-Rodder/Engine builder/Mechanic.)

A lot of time you can use rockauto for a crossreferance as they usually have pictures of the parts with numbers.

:sign17: Heck, these days I use Rockauto for about %90 of my parts needs for my daily driver or the wife's car. Their diagrams and parts lookups are pretty good and I've found that the prices just can't be beat. Although, I will admit that looking some of the parts up for our K series trucks can get just a little tricky there.

Ironic that the way I learned about that site was through one of the guys at the parts counter at a local O'Riley! :haha:

If I dont need something right away I normally use rockauto or summit racing. If I do need something quickly I got a complete set of parts books before I quit oreillys and I look up my parts and take them a part number. Whats bad is that they still get it wrong sometimes.

The computer system oreillys uses to look up parts is confusing sometimes though, especially with tie rod ends. Dont know why but it lists them funny and gives bad descriptions. However, if you get a parts guy thats not lazy, the moog book has good diagrams and lists them correctly. Most of the guys at my local oreillys dont like me cause I make them use a book if I dont already have the part number and usually have to show them how to look stuff up.

When I lived in WA autozone was the absolute worst place to go, one of the big Oriley's was the good place to go, it was their big hub store, always had everything in stock. 20 minutes away where my buddy lived, it was the opposite. So moved here, been to an Orileys, which was sorta crap, autozone I only bought oil and there were kids behind the counter. They also have advanced here, I just gotta make my rounds and see what's good.

I usually find what I need at oriley's website, write down the part number and take it in. If I can't find a part number, rockauto. They're awesome because it's the actual picture of the part, imagine that. I just keep cross referencing till I find what I need.

There's what I think is a non chain parts store, needa go check them out. Oh and called napa here once, got a "don't have it, click".

They all pretty much have the same stuff, just depends on who works there and how little BS you have to sort through :)

Lots of banter and stories, no one has answered your question...

Yes ES2233L and ES2234R are the short replaceable ends for the Tube style tie rod.

The other option would be one looooong tie rod and one short one connected by an adjuster sleeve. But it sounds to me like you have the tube style.

haha. hey guys im totally cool with stories of counter jockies but thanks 496. i just ordered and will be here in the am. steering is getting a lil loose and i just replaced top and botom ball joints and drag link. i will hopefully be able to become a full member on wednesday. finances are a lil tight being i have sunk well over 6 grand in this thing since paying a grand for it over 5 years ago. and just reciently bring it back from a rusty hole tattered grave.

Replace your rag joint while you're at it. I redid my whole front end (a few hundred dollars and a weekend worth of work), which helped a lot, but I didn't get all the slop out until I replaced the rag joint (about 5 dollars and 30 minutes worth of work).

Or you can look into getting an xj shaft and eliminating the rag joint, I've seen a bunch of people talking about it on here, I just never looked into it.
