Any of the 8000 or 9500 lb. winches made by Warn are excellent. Most people would say the 8274.

I think I'm going to go with a ramsey rep 9500 e, unless something better falls into my lap before I actually buy one. I don't care about speed, I'd rather have some quality at a reasonable price.
i'm just looking for something that won't let me down when i barry the blazer up to it's rockers, plus i'm building my front and rear bumpers this summer and need to have some measurements.
some of my buddies had the 8274 and that's what i want but can't find a used one around. and the only problems they had were they did straight pulls and both broke there cable, but neither got it as bad as i'm thinking i might get.

The stock cable on the 8274 is pretty much the standard for any 8K or 9.5K winch (5/16" I think). If you are worried about breaking cable on an 8274, you should only be worried because the 8274 is too damn strong (and underrated at 8000 lbs.)

Let's just put it this way. I have a Warn winch that precedes the 8274 design which was last manufactured in 1976 IIRC and it pulls like a MOFO! It is also known as the Bellevue. If that's not quality than I don't what is. Go Warn or Go home 
By the same right, the same 8274 has been on my truck since 1983. I had a bad connection last year and changed the oil at the same time (just because I wanted to, man 22 year old gear oil is nasty). Other than that it has operated flawlessly the whole time. I have never personally seen anyone burn up a winch but have heard of plenty of milemarkers and ramseys go bad after less than ten pulls (I'm sure the operaters were being hard on them, but that is when you most need them to hold up). Most praise Warn winches. Check ebay or pay for shipping on a used winch if you can't find one locally in your price range. Just my .02

Yes, most praise Warns, but Warn's are a fad too.. like to many other things in any sport. Many just buy them for the name alone, and because some other guy has one. No one wants to be "the guy wihout the Warn winch" .. LOL .. hell, sign me up.
IMHO a Ramsey is just as easly as good as a Warn.
Both are capable of failure, and both are capable of many years of service.
i like my ramsey patriot 15000.... also with 7/16 cable.. dont see that breaking soon!!!!!
