A new build just got in line!
Buddy of mine 4 hours away stalks me on facebook and wants to make his grandpas old truck something cool, fast, conceptually awesome and a driver and have his grandpa ride in it before he dies.
So.. after hashing it out we went from a twin turbo ls build to a simple cummins to a fully built race track killer lbz duramax/allison combo.
59 step side on a lbz single cab long bed 4x4. I needed another project like a I need a hole in the head but thankfully there is a lot of parts gathering to do first.
Next step is for him to buy the donor. He understands I'm pretty freaking busy right now, but this will be a BAD truck to build up and he wants to keep the patina!
ok, off to vegas for a day or two, be back to make some progress on the other builds sunday!

I didn't realize you kept all your buggy axles etc. That helps speed things up.

That moment when you are in Vegas, work till midnight with a vender, been working on projects, haven't slept much in days, you are wearing boots and go on a bender playing craps till 5am and you can't recall where you parked the car. Then have to walk around for hours and check EVERY casino parking garage.
Feet literally gave out from fatigue, pain and my boots, tried to walk in socks while stumbling deliriously like a drunk zombie falling asleep randomly anywhere I sat.
I have no idea how girls do it!
Cabs can not go into garages, so finally hired a guy of the street to drive me around. about 9 am I finally found it.
Next time I hear a girl complain about her feet around me I'm just going to offer up a supportive piggy back.
You did my feet real dirty Vegas. Back home. My 4.5 hour drive took 12 hours with having to pull over to nap over and over as I didn't want my final resting place to be in a dodge caravan at the bottom of a canyon.

Finally slept and its back to work time!
Also got the new glass in for the new Jimmys4x4 BLoodline chassis, decided to mock it up on the willys..hehe

Today was able to get a little done,
Worked on getting the 5.3 block cleaned up then painted for the 65
On Bens 82, we were able to work on the coolers, lines, his steering column, trans lines and he knocked a few good little things off.
On the buggy, took the hood, cowl and grill down but sadly didn't get to work on it.
In other news I just got invited to co-drive for the Utv class with my friends son, so look like ill be headed up to Fallen for the ultra 4 race, then over to grand juntion the week after for Dirt Riot.
on top of all of that.. as soon as we get back from blazer bash there is the arizona offroad expo and my buggy is supposed to run and drive for the booth with artec. uhh
Its 2:30, sleep time

Cant sleep with so much on my mind
I realized after I typed my reply just how close some of my deadlines are
Lots of custom parts are needed so I need to get the custom ones ordered and on their way.
On the Willys, I had used Speed Hut Gauges for the speedo and I really liked everything about them along with the fact that they are a small USA made company with an array of ways to customize the gauges

So with a vintage theme in mind to go with an airbrushed wood grain dash I decided to go hot rod style for the gauges.
They have some pretty slick option with all in ones and they are very well sealed, considering my crazy mud bog ways..this is a no brainer and makes wiring so easy and clean.
Any thoughts ?

-Fuel gauge, would be nice to run this

The plan is to run the cluster above, and in addition 4 single 2-1/16" gauges.

Planning to put the 4, next to the shifter. Should provide an easy way for the co driver to reference them and not have to look at mine, along with I can check an individual gauge quicker/easier than the cluster along with giving me a little redundancy.

Pretty much how I feel, am I trying to build a show car here or a buggy lol
I do really like the simplicity.
In a race buggy you want them easy to read at a quick glance, those sideways things look nice, but don't look easy to read. I know racers who turn all the gauges so all the needles point straight up under normal circumstances, then they don't even have to look at the numbers unless one of them isn't straight up.
The Autometer "elite" series can be programmed to change colors at any point, even within a window. So the entire gauge will turn from white or green to red, yellow, blue, whatever is something goes wrong. It's like a built in idiot light to get your attention. Or the tach is also a shift light.

I'm pretty stuck on these. I've wanted an excuse to get them for a project and here it is. They are slick and I like the package.
With racing, the co-driver will have the pertinent gauges of his own 12v-fuel-oil-temp. Ill have a warning light in addition to the ob2 off the torque app.
The mounting needle up on the center ones is a good idea and easy.
They do have an option for a custom logo or symbol, Ive had a little thought into putting a logo where the max is or where the opp area is as a quick reference ?

Made a nifty little gig to speed up the panel tabs, my last buggy I HATED removing panels as half of them had less than ideal methods. This should be much better. The dash, floors and a few strategic panels will be Zeus fasteners.

Have you seen the dzus fasteners the drag cars use? 1/4 turn and they are loose for quick panel removal, some of them are self retaining too so you can't loose the fastener.

Dzuz fasteners are pretty normal in the off-road racing world as well.
It's more expensive but get the ones that are self retained with the spring. Sucks loosing a fastener in the field and having no way to replace it.
