The "under destruction builds" supersize75k5 's driveway of despair and repair

forget about another truck and keep the ones you have. Find nice sized (not oversized like we all do!) enclosed trailer and work out of that. You can keep everything in it locked up, park it for the weekend and not have to clean it out for play and when it rains...not that you have that problem...you have a covered area to work in.

We used to use a long bed truck and enclosed trailer at work then a few years ago upgraded to an E450 Diesel Box Truck and let me tell you it was worth it just to ditch the trailer. When traveling to a job it's nice to be able to do 65-70 instead of 55 the whole way. But if he's semi local I agree a small enclosed trailer is the way to go.

I know he travels a good bit. I think we have all seen the stories about trading fire suppresion stuff for gas in the boonies but I didn't know you were limited to just 55 mph with a trailer. I thought that was just on a U-Haul and that shows 45. Here we don't have a stipulation on trailer speed. Hell, we don't even have a stipulation on how unjustly stupid you can or can't be regarding a trailer being pulled by a non regulated truck (commercial).

Id spring for a customized box truck before I would do a trailer.

Parking in scottsdale, let alone downtown phoenix could be a real pain with a trailer to think about. I often have to park way out as it is just do to full lots "recession my ass" so a trailer would seriously make that worse.

I might look at box trucks, but that throws the gas millage increase out the window too, although a nice work bench and ac would be something sweet... looking at it in the driveway though would not.

Just go and find a half ton pickup. Seems like that's what you want the most.

It is for many reasons, I could pay cash for one, cheap repairs, easy to park, nice ride, would act as a back up tow rig if my 06 was down, or the 06 could easily be a back up work truck. The 06 has 186k on it, I like it, its payed for but I cant say I would drive it across country with a trans with that many miles and not worry:eek1:

One thing that pisses me off is how awesome a half ton diesel would be, something with 150-175hp, 300-350-ftlbs torque..nice ride, decent payload ability, 20 mpg or better.. I think they would sell like hot cakes.

I've thought about a 4bt swap in a 03-06 half ton, but im sure the legality of it all would be a pain.

If I didn't have this pesky hobby I would have just a work truck and some bad ass over powered ego inflating muscle car.. but NOOOOOO have to love these 4x4's and more than one of them:doah:

Well gm was planning a smaller diesel to put in the 1/2 tons but the economy took a nose div- I mean a header and GM got the government bail out and stopped development.

i read its back in design and they are working on it again:dunno:

Whatever happened to the Vette you had?

Yeah, if GM would make a smaller diesel I'd actually consider their trucks again. Hell, if any of them would...EVEN JEEP!

I'll buy a Mahindra in a few years if they ever get their act together and start selling them here.
GM, Ford, and Jeep make diesel powered versions of their current small 4x4's overseas but we can't get it? Bull****. So I won't buy their new crap.

I had my hopes up for the mahindra but for the price tag? Cant say I would want to spend 25k and not get a full size truck.

The vette I was building for a friend, it actually finally left the week before last. I was happy to see it done and gone but it will be back for paint later im sure.

Im sure ill get to take some burn out vids of it sooner than later:thumb:

I did find a pic of a lifted 4 door with a utility bed, sexy:pimp:

I'm a fan of smaller vehicles (6 Suzukis so far) and could use a smaller pickup in the fleet. Just have no reason to have another fullsize pickup. However I refuse to buy a compact gas powered truck that gets the same or WORSE gas mileage than a fullsize half ton.
I remember your Colorado debacle a while back so I understand your concerns.

Oh shut it.:waytogo: They were definitely stylistically different from our junk at that point.

Hey now i have not bought anything yet, give the poor thing some hope.

I need to look into a half ton long bed but the dealer wont sell one with a utility bed on it, I assume the bed is too heavy for the trucks gvwr?

How heavy are these darn things, and has anyone driven a 6.0 dually? Are they hugs turds or???

At work we have an 08 gmc 3500 4x4 with a 6.0. Its ext cab and has a chevron wheel lift on it. It is the worst tow truck i have ever drove. sucks on fuel and wont get out of its own way, wont hold weight and stopping sucks.
On the other hand, i have the same truck as a pickup and a 2500, and i love it. It seems like a totally different truck with just a pickup bed. I dont know how different a tow truck wheel lift body to a utility body is weight wise.

Soooooooo

Im a a crossroads, the truck has huge ass tires on it and im breaking everytrip:doah:

broken parts are piling up around the house, and this is only what had not made it to the trash.. check out how messed up the short side inner is.. !

So I for certain needed a ford short side inner, but no one had anything instock other than chromo.

Ordered one up from Extreme Axles sales, real nice guy btw.

So I did have a pair of chromo hight clearanced/machined 35 splines for the buggy, and a spicer outer as a spare. Also have 35 spline flanged on the buggy.

I also have a spare 30 spline outer and a set of warns.

So my options are to put the chromo in, with a 30 spline on the outer and run the warns, then fix the long side with another 30 spline, but this leaves me no spare shafts, week outers, and again no spare hubs.

Or I could add my chromo shafts from the buggy, and the 35 spline flanges. This gives me the beef but I have no week spot.. so whats my next fuse, the drive shaft or the ring and pinion:eek1:?? I will have a spare 35 spline with this option, and later I will need to order hubs "gives me a needed week point", a chromo long side inner and Im thinking about the bobby long u-joints.

The truck will need shafts though to drive on the street as the front is welded, as well as spare hubs being the 35 spliners will be a week spot.

Mud bog is saturday and there is a cash purse:D

more 35 splines with flanges for wheelin and lockouts for cruisin.

Its welded:doah:

After I blew up the powertrax I said the hell with it for now.

It would not be so bad if North west fab would return my emails so I could get new shifter cables, as of now I have to leave the 205 in 4 low.. Last night I got the axle back together and it was insane to turn on pavement with the hydro assist off of the truck right now.

Sadly jkw does not make the right cap for my steering box, so I decided to get the box tapped, hopefully it can get done today or I am hosed and stuck with a stock box.

So tonight there are some big boys coming out from the other side of town.. Debating real hard on going and picking up a nitrous kit today or locking hubs... one sounds much more fun than the other.. wonder if anyone in town has a kit.:D
