The "under destruction builds" supersize75k5 's driveway of despair and repair

if you are putting a new frame under your work truck why dont you find a diesel motor to put in it while you have it blown apart

If he wanted a diesel (he's talked about it) he could just buy a DMax truck. He was worried about the repair bill if an out-of-warranty DMax decided to crap a CP3 or burn down a piston. I told him that hardly ever happens...

He could put a Cummins in the 06, but it would have to be an 06 or newer common rail motor to be emissions legal. Common rail Cummins suffer from the same injection system issues as the DMax, since they use the same Bosch CP3 and similar injectors. Once again, lose a CP3 or burn down a hole and it's big $$$.... but once again, thats actually pretty rare. i think he just worries too much... :D

Greg hit it on the head pretty well.

I see it this way; a swap should cost me 5-7k or more... i can replace the whole 6.0 and trans if needed for a grand with 30k miles.. Ill take my reliable gasser and cheap repairs over diesel repairs for now.

The only way I want a new d-max is if it is under warranty and I feel treat my trucks way to bad to destroy a new 50k truck..we all know its destiny if I got one.

Biggest issue that scares me off from a used d-max is the ones I could be a cash buyer for are the years with injector issues. . That is not a cheap repair.

we see how your gassers are treated. if you ever have a deisel, it better be a diesel tank.

:haha:

Yeah but there's not a lot of them anymore. He could start with a T-55 or T-54 and there's gazillions of those for him to rob parts off of.

Pick me up a set. Shipping to 42104.

I think the $5-7k for a DMax swap would be better spent on quick release fittings and connectors to get your drivetrain swap time down under an hour. Then you could go through 2-3 drivetrains a day and keep on playing...

Not sure why the roll eyes... I have bought far more that one drivetrain for that price. I payed 550.00 for a 07 6.0 with 32 or 33k on it in the buggy and got to run the motor and pull it myself. They are out there, hell I just sold a motor and trans last week and have another one in my back yard :thumb:

Turbo, set of injectors, intercooler, piston issue or anything really on a d-max, if anything breaks from abuse or bad luck I am hosed.

Right now I not only have a spare motor sitting around but I can afford to carry every sensor, some coils, injectors, throttle body, o2 sensors ect in one handy bag.. that same bag is useful for the buggy.. the 07 and the tow rig...

Hell I even have a spare fuel pump sitting in a box I could take on a long trip.. as well as a starter, alt, belts, hoses. I have already saved my ass once by having the same motor in both trucks when my starter went out a month ago while on my way back from the mud bogs... simply yanked it off the 07.

I am not arguing that the 6.0 is better, I have been in other peoples diesels, made trips with one while pulling huge hills and smiled while passing with a 38 foot trailer in tow.. they are bad ass. .

Nearly everyone I know with a cummins, powerstroke or d-max has been on the side of the road with it.. granted that could happen to me too but at least I will have the parts to rob off what ever toy is on my trailer.

Pass me on the hill all they want, ill be the guy with the tool bag out fixing his stuff while they wait for a hook next time.:pimp:

So I guess what we've learned today is the buggy needs a d-max. :dunno:

:haha: I like the fact you are comfortable with a setup and stick with it even though people may give you crap about it.

I think the dmax would actually hinder his airborne tactics, by nose diving like crazy when ever it went airborne.

hmmmm... i liek the 6.0 interchangeability uyou have here. my 07 has the 6.0... maybe i should jsut throw one in "possum" while i still need to source a motor anyhow
