So I picked up one of these today for cheap, since right now I don't have anything keeping anyone from taking my ride...

I don't use my hardtop and my soft top isn't gonna keep anyone from poking around my Blazer. Like I said, I didn't have anything, so I just picked this up for cheap. I saw a thread on here before about some lock boxes that go over your steering column and keep anyone from getting access to your ignition system on the column.
I'd definitely like to take the Blazer out to eat, or be able to leave it parked for a while and not have to worry so much about it not being there when I get back. Does anyone use the CLUB type theft deterrents and do they work pretty well?
Or what type of deterrent do you use, other than sitting in the bushes with a 12 ga... HAHA
Thanks:bow:

I see it as a waste of money. Yes a thief may go to the next ride if they see it. Doesn't take much to get them off though. Hack saw the wheel open and pull it out. Bet it could be done in under a minute.

There was a news show a few years back, (I think it was 60 minutes) who brought in several car thieves and had them work against cars, with specific deterrents.

The best protection that they found in that show, was the use of obscure ignition kill switches. (A hard to see, or well placed rocker switch, hooked up to the starter motor power line for example.)

It wont protect your radio, or wheels, but if you hide it well enough, it's a pretty cheap addition, that may keep someone from driving away with the truck.

Thanks for the input guys. Yeah, I only spent $20 on it, so I don't feel to bad. I just figured it was better than nothing til I figure something else out.

Column guards are about the easiest, because you don't have to hack anything up.

Very effective, since THESE trucks are stolen by breaking the column. Stop that, 99% of the thefts wouldn't happen.

Go to a wrecking yard if you don't believe me. Look at all GM cars and trucks with our style steering column in there, and how many are broken. Those are all the thefts.

Back when I was in college I used a Club on my Blazer.......stopped the thieves once but they came back about 6 months later and stole it (chopped a notch in the steering wheel and pulled the club off).

Yes, I would recommend using it as a deterrent. Just like said above it could very well convince a thief to move on. I really think a thief would want some sort of cordless saw to hack the wheel (it was obvious they used a power tool on mine), even though it wouldn't take that long to cut the wheel with a hacksaw I don't think the average thief would want to sit in the truck long enough to do it.

After the theft I then also installed a remote ignition kill switch but forntuately never was able to test it. I think the combination of the club and kill switch would probably delay most thieves enough they would give up and move on.

I use a club too. thought about a remote kill switch to but if I leave my truck for any length of time I carry a socket wrenchin my Tuffy counsel and just easily unbolt my wheel and take it with me. It takes maybe 30 second to take my wheel with me. You can start my blazer but makes it hard to drive with no wheel to steer with.

works better when you have triple sticks, had a friend who left his in low range and the thieves got about 40 ft jumped out of the truck and took off left it running and everything

Just low or double low? I can see them trying to drive around with the truck in doule low and in 3rd gear still only be going 5mph! hahaha

hidden kill switch for the win. you can even get an insurance break for a passive theft deterrent system.

ive always done the HEI kill. that way when the guy gets in the truck he will just think its a turd that broke down.

i plan on doing a fuel line cut off too. somewhere under the truck when i leave it parked for days at at time if they find the kill switch they will get a few blocks away before it runs out of gas

i usually just pull off the power wire to the hei, as no theif is actually going to pop the hood and see why it won't start, ok maybe there is some retard ot there, guess you could pick him off with the pellet gun while hes looking lol

Column guard and a kill switch on the power for either the distributor or injection pump in my case. Guy and sit there and crank till the batteries are dead, she ain't startin!

Truth is, if they really want the K5, they'll get it regardless, does not take much to load a rig on a trailer or tow dolley and dissapear

buy a high beam foot switch. Wire the purple wire to it and hide it under the carpet. then it doesn't look like a kill. just looks like a highbeam switch
