I just got theft insurance on my K5. $65 every 6 months. I pay more for lunch in the city in a week sometimes.
After reading about Tori's experience, and everyone else's trucks or parts driving away without them, I figured I ought to at least look into it.
It took 30 seconds. My agent gave me the quote, I said "give it to me!!", she said, "done. It covers someone keying it, breaking a window, any parts stolen off it, whole truck being stolen, etc. etc., but not if someone hits it while it's parked." I said, "like with a hammer or another car?" she said, "another car. Hammer is covered".
And all the existing and future mods are covered. If I want to, I can have it photo inspected right now for stuff I don't have reciepts on for free, they eat the inspection charge...

GET IT!!!! You'll be glad if something happens to your K5! I hate insurance companies, but reading about tori's experience gave me enough faith to get it against theft.

Sounds like a cool deal. I am calling my agent on Mon. to ask for a quote.

Hey ask your agent if your vehicle was stolen how much the book value (and believe me insurance books are alot lower than NADA) is on it and how much they would pay you if you had a "total loss". I know my blazer books at like 3k with high miles but I have 2k in the motor alone and after I get all done I figure ill have at least 8k in it so see if you were to get an appraisal if they could have it covered at a higher cost. It sucks to find this out when its too late.

They figure value by internet, comparative advertisement s for equal vehicle, etc., not just by one source. The photo inspection is supposed to verify the stuff you've done but don't have reciepts for (it's done by an ase/insurance certified shop), unless you have the reciepts. they will give you whatever you have in reciept value on top of stock value, or reciepts after an appraisal. If you have that much in it, I'd say get it appraised, and definately insure it. I was pretty specific in questions, and I understand that they will give you the stock value, plus what you put into it. Definately worth it to me (so far stock value is more than I paid for it! Not much, but more).

I'm using Allstate, they've been good to me for a long time now.
